Good base for everything chiapas

Chiapas gets a bad rap for some reason. I had one of the most cultural pleasant visits I can recal. Highly recommend it

Very good choice with both a mall nearby as well as restaurants.

Hotel close to mall, away from downtown.

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: Some hotel staff, garden, pool, business center.
Cons: Not enough water from shower (just center holes worked). Not polite when asking for change or room because of horrible view to an empty parking lot.
Location: A big mall just across the street. Far away from downtown but a lot of taxis and public transportation.
Good. My fist trip to Tuxtla attending work at State University, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Chiapas, located next to Holiday Inn, so location was perfect for me.

Beware of breakfast included

Posted Jun 28, 2014
When I made reservation for this hotel, Expedia showed breakfast included. Sadly when we arrive we only recieved breakfast for 2 adults nor for children. We had to pay extra for each kid. I called Expedia and contact the hotel manager but still didn't have any call back from expedia staff. 😕

Fancy hotel with a few issues.

Posted May 30, 2014
Pros: Pretty.
Cons: Cooling.
Location: In an Americanized area, with an Applebees and Sam's Club, etc. nearby. Far far away from the airport.
We were pleased to finally arrive at our hotel, which was nice for Mexico. However, the room air conditioner was turned off when we got there and we had to get someone to come turn it on, as it was not self-explanatory. The thermostat was set to about 74 degrees and would not get any cooler, even after it was turned on. The room was fine, other than that. The restaurant was nice, but a little pricey. We needed a shuttle to the airport, but this hotel did not provide one. It was a hassle to have them call a taxi, which they initially were going to charge $100 for, but we negotiated them down to $40. (in pesos $400.) In their defense, this hotel is a long way from the airport, so don't stay here if you have to fly out from here.

Holiday Inn Tuxtla

Very clean, modern hotel. Staff was hardworking and helpful. Most speak very little English, but were prepared to try and were patient with our even less proficient Spanish. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Beautiful pool and courtyard, really not exposed to the noise and chaos of the street. We needed a taxi at 4:00 am--they arranged for the hotel's driver to take us.

Steaming hot and ice cold water rushes

Posted Apr 29, 2014 on Hotels
After an almost 10 hours driving to Tuxtla from Merida, Yucatan. All we wanted was to take a nice shower. Got in the shower and NOT to our surprise hot and cold rushes of water as we showered. Very disgusting, but somehow this happens in a lot of hotels in Mexico. Location was OK, if you're ready to deal with a really bad traffic all day long. Following the hotel's suggestion we hung our towels avoiding extra expenses and saving the Earth. A big hanging sign explaining the idea was more than visible. However, every morning we were getting fresh towels and our day before towels were still hanging in the bathroom. Last night of our stay our room was not cleaned including the full wastebasket. Same night before our departure on the next morning (5:00 a.m.) there was no ice anywhere. Checked in the bar, the restaurant, the specialties restaurant and no one had ice. I saw their ice machines empty. A server told me that the hotel management has been buying ice bags for quite a while now. Run down hotel from the 90's. Dripping shower and hand basin. A real disgrace to the brand. Not staying there again. City traffic awful due to main roads repairs specially those in use for natural attractions in the area. Holiday Inn is not the Holiday Inn we've seen in other countries.
