Under renovation - not recommended at the moment

Posted Jun 24, 2017
Pros: Location.
Cons: Breakfast buffet.
Location: The location is great. We loved looking out to Impossibles beach and there's a great cafe at the top of the drive way, Bukit!
My partner and I just returned from a week at the Anantara Ulu. We booked it via Expedia with no forewarning of the extensive renovation work currently being carried out at the resort. Upon arrival we were told that we were lucky enough to be upgraded at no charge, to a room further away from the construction. This is great but there was still considerable downside to our stay at the Anantara.. Everyday there was work happening around the pool (not very peaceful) and the lift to impossibles beach below was closed meaning we had no access to the surf beach that this location is famous for and one of the main reasons for our stay here. Also the restaurants at the hotel were closed for renovation and what was left available was less that satisfactory. The renovations/construction were throughout the entire resort so there was no escaping paint fumes, sawdust, drop sheets and wet paint.. The staff were great at pretending it was no inconvenience but I just want to warn anyone looking at this as an option, I wouldn't recommend it.

Dear Hayley, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We are carrying out some improvements throughout the resort however it is not a full scale renovation. One of our restaurants operations was moved to a temporary location while a new waterproof covering was erected however it wasn't closed. The beach elevator is closed due to safety concerns however it will be fully operational next month after maintenance and a complete a safety audit. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, we can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Kind Regards Allan & Team.

I stayed at Anantara with a friend of mine for 1 week in an ocean front pool suite, it was absolutely divine. We rarely left our room & never used the main pool because our was incredible, the views of impossible beach were out of this world. I would absolutely return to this hotel although there are currently some works going on, this is a good thing as the hotel itself needs a bit of a face lift. Food/service is second to none, thank you for a fantastic holiday Anantara!!

The Anantara Resort's got the total package, their accommodation/rooms are top notch, its location is fantastic, the elevated views of the coast & surf are spectacular and the Anantara's Staff are amazing, all over a very unique place to stay, we would highly recommend this hotel/resort to anyone seeking a truly relaxing & fullfilling break

Was Once a Gem - maybe...

Pros: The location is great if the elevator to Impossibles worked.
Cons: Remodeling is needed. Too many stairs everywhere. Get rid of the plastic stirrers and go green!
The Anantara was our third hotel we stayed at and definitely our least favorite. For the price the rooms did not match the value. The hotel decor was outdated and there was a lot of construction to improve this. But the construction noise really interrupted the tranquility. The elevator to Impossibles is down and has been for over 4 months. There's no finish date in sight. We chose that hotel with that being a main feature for us. We had to walk around and down the many stairs to get to the beach. The staff were very friendly, but I found they were not very attentive with instructions with food orders. We would ask for something and the food or drink would be delivered incorrectly. Also the hotel is very wasteful with plastic. Every drink comes with a disposable plastic stirrer and a straw. These plastic stirrers add up and are so very harmful to the ocean and environment. I kept asking for my drinks without the plastic stirrer and they kept bringing it to me with the stirrer. I was really impressed with a room they provided to us in order to use to shower for our flight. That was a really nice touch.

Overpriced hotel, standard rooms and overall mediocre hotel design. "Pool suite" is totally misleading, you're sharing a common pool with neighboring rooms and it's very noisy. Construction and detailing is poor (I can hear people walking upstairs constantly. The hotel has no actual beach so you're forced to use the main pool or leave the hotel. Only redeeming feature is the amazingly friendly staff. Hi

Excellent location. Breathtaking sunsets.

Posted Apr 23, 2017
Small hotel at excellent location, the views and sunsets are breathtaking, rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable and igroinda are very peaceful. It was probably a great hotel when new but it is definitely very tired and grounds and rooms urgently need a face lift! It's a shame because it has a lot of potential. Food not great at restaurants. Pool area very small. Spa services are nothing extra ordinary. Great value for price but 4 star, not 5!
