The center of it all

Posted Sep 23, 2017
Lovely hotel, right in the middle of everything. We were near the Symphony Hall and walked over to where chairs and a large screen were set up to watch Zubin Mehta conduct the Israeli Symphony... magic! Great location, instead of eating breakfast at the hotel, take a walk to one of the many fabulous bakeries nearby and get yourself a hot strudel. I would most definitely stay there again.

Disco music Hell - A ruined landmark!!!

Posted Sep 19, 2017
We had a nightmare experience on Saturday and Sunday nights with weddings blasting disco music until 4 am both nights. We paid for two Executive Suites for two nights. I called at midnight, 1:30 am and at 3:30 am to complain about horrific music thumping through the walls on the second floor. The staff let the phones ring 20-30 times before responding and promised to talk to the DJ who did nothing. For two nights they violated stringent city regulations but the police did not intervene. The rooms were tired and dated and not on the Executive floor. When I demanded to be moved I was offered a move the next day at 4:00 and 5:00 pm because they had agreed to "late check-out" for the wedding parties. Of course by 6:00 pm the rooms were yet moved. Surprising and disappointing experience at a landmark hotel in the City. Some years ago I organized an international congress here, my Rotary club meets here, and I abhor the way it is being managed. Catering to parvenue weddings breaking every noise ordinance at the expense of customers who pay to rest there?! If this is the new Hilton way then the GM Mr Korkmaz has destroyed a city landmark. Our weekend in Bucharest was ruined by the Hilton. We slept from 5 am to 10 am. There was no front desk manager and no GM, so the duty manager offered us free breakfast, which was then not available between 11 and 12:00. Upon leaving they gave us half price off for the first night.... Do not stay there if you can avoid it!!!

Good hotel and staff

Posted Sep 1, 2017
After an accidental fall at the Mud Volcanoes, I returned to the hotel (very upset) with all my clothes and backpack 'full of mud'. The concierge was very kind to arrange to clean these items so the next day, my clothes and backback were cleaned (like new), and I smiled again. On the other hand, I recommend to place a sign on 'mandatory good behavior' at the pool and jacuzzi area: a bunch of children were screaming and hitting the water with a stuff (like crazy) so I could not relax, and left the area. I knew that the lady in charge of the health spa handled the problem after I complained and left. Regardless if they are tourists, everyone must behave. During my stay, the hotel was refurbishing the gym area.

Nice hotel

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Pros: location, facilities, breakfast, nice swimming pool and jacuzzi
Location: walking distance to old city (downtown)
Most of the hotel staff are very good, but the concierge Daniel and the front desk manager Antonio were absolutely the best, professional, efficient and very courteous - solved every problem and provided useful information.

Imposing Location

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Pros: Staff, location and public facilities
Cons: See my review
Location: There are loads of restaurants and bars. Many museums are easily accessible on hop on bus tours. Great parks and boating lakes.
This is a great place to stay although I think the hotel has seen better days. It gives great service and has some some good facilities but in truth it is really a 4 star. The English bar is warm and welcoming at night, In the morning the breakfast chef was pleased to provide food not on in the buffet. This was good because the buffet wasn't kept 'fresh' and appealing. There was no table service at all so even coffee and juice had to be collected. Breakfast tables weren't always cleared quickly enough. Our room was large and airy but dated, particularly the bathroom. The TV channels were very limited for what should be a cosmopolitan hotel. Overall the hotel was pleasing to stay at but could do with a makeover.

Dear Jim, Thank you for choosing to stay at Athenee Palace Hilton during your visit in Bucharest and for sharing your candid review with fellow travelers. Your satisfaction as our valued guest is our only commitment and I am truly disappointed to see we were unable to rise to your expectations with regards of our property’s general appearance and facilities. We are proud to be situated in a historical building that kept a unique elegant interbellum atmosphere despite of many dramatic changes Bucharest went within the last decades. Regarding your comments about breakfast, please rest assured that our restaurant manager will look into the situation to prevent these inconveniences from happening again. On another note, I would like to thank you for your positive comments regarding our team members and our hotel's central location, and hope you will allow us to welcome you again and prove our usual high service standards. Great location

Really nice hotel with everything you could ask for. We went in august so boiling hot - while it has a pool in basement an outside one for summer would have been ideal. Rooms are large and very clean but they are quite dated for a five star hotel really - it's a 4 star hotel for me. Very nice and helpful staff

Great location, better guests than Radisson.

Posted Jul 15, 2017
Great location, staff, food. The hotel also has a lot of history, v elegant lobby and ball rooms. It is frequented by a more sophisticated clientele (as opposed to Radisson, across the street, which attracts too many vulgar gamblers.) Bathroom could be nicwe/newer/more storage space.
