"We had the most wonderful stay here for 3 days over easter. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, every part of it is carefully thought out. The decor is gorgeous, rooms spacious with lovely high ceilings and it is immaculately clean. The grounds are stunning, service and staff exceptional, i cannot think of one negative thing about our stay. Breakfast was also excellent and dinner in the restaurant the same with very reasonable pricing too for a 5 star hotel. A couple of minutes walk away are a couple of pleasant local restaurants and if you have a car, lots of hikes nearby. We loved every minute of our stay and would return in a heartbeat. "

"Hotel de diseño con vistas estupendas al Duero. Tiene dos piscinas pequeñas, y un gimnasio y spa también pequeños, pero suficientes. El restaurante Raiva ofrece una comida y un servicio excelentes. El sumiller, Pedro, se portó especialmente bien con nosotros, explicando los vinos de la región y teniendo un trato muy amable. El hotel ofrece diversas actividades, como paseos por el Duero, excursiones, etc. Un lugar estupendo para relajarse y desconectar unos días."

"We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. Just plan ahead if you’re staying on a Sunday as many restaurants were closed but we found a gem in Cinfaes - Sabores e Memorias where husband and wife cook for you and welcome you in. The pool was not yet open unfortunately since it was March but would have been an incredible view. There’s also a kids playground set which helps for the little ones and a small little fish pond. The property has beautiful lemon and orange trees. A full and delicious warm breakfast was served directly to your door. A very peaceful stay! Highly recommend."

"The property was what we hoped. The issue we had was not typical but it maybe worth noting. After our stay we noticed we had left an expensive jacket behind. After many failed attempts to reach the hotel we have accepted the loss. After unanswered emails and lengthy times on hold and finally speaking to someone we were asked to call back the next day. We followed their direction and called the next day. Unfortunately that was the last time we had any communications with the hotel. We called many different times of the day to be put on hold then never answered. The hotel was not busy at all due to low season. We felt this was a chance to provide an exceptional service when it was really needed. The Douro Scala failed. Our request seemed beyond their capabilities. We simply needed to talk with someone. "

"Everything about the place is beautiful and deserves a longer stay to enjoy all the amenities. Unfortunately, the town is charming but does not offer much for more than 1 night. If I could do it again, I would arrive earlier to enjoy the facilities and great restaurants, spa, etc., and still have some time to walk around the charming town."
