Great into to Montevideo

Posted Mar 17, 2015
Cons: It would have been nice to have a place to put the suitcase other than the floor. The room was roomy so not in the way but made for a lot of bending.
Location: Teatro Solis - good tour and great performance. A couple of milongas were within walking distance. Went to 4 museums in the old city.
Karen is a great hostess. She has lots of info to get you started on your visit to the city and country. While we were there she found us milongas and carnival venues to go to for every night of our stay. The location is good as it very close to Teatro Solis and the squares, and museums in the old part of the city. By keeping to July 18 we were able to walk to everything we wanted to go to even at night. It was nice having a kitchen available as our lunch at the market was so large we took a doggy bag home and had the rest for dinner. WiFi was good and there was also a phone and computer available for use if you didn't have your own.

Pretty good digs in Montevideo

Posted Apr 27, 2012
Pros: We had access to a kitchen and sitting area, which was good because the room itself didn't have a comfortable place to sit, except for on the bed(s).
Cons: The bathroom was across the hall, which was OK but not ideal. Also, there was no place in the bathroom to put anything down--just a sink, no shelves.
Location: The location was very good, easy walking to most major sites.
The guest house is very clean and well maintained. The location is great. But the comfort level was a little below what we expected based on the website. Still, all in all, we're glad we stayed here.

Not Impressed

It's in a bad location; the furnishings are spartan; the lack of direct contact with anyone is spooky (once you paid in full for the room, upon arrival, that is); the lack of a simple snack or breakfast just adds to the overall coldness of the place.

Looking forward to another visit

Casa Sarandi is not your usual hotel--it is much better! Located on a single floor in a multi-story apartment building, it is wonderfully located for visiting the sites in Montevideo and for taking advantage of the night life in the area. While there is not a staff person located on-site, the owner met us there as scheduled for us to check in and was available promptly via email whenever we had a question about anything. Since guests share a living/dining area and kitchen, it provides an opportunity to meet others who are visiting Montevideo and allows you to prepare any or all of your meals, if you choose. The individual guestrooms with en suite bathrooms and the common areas are all beautifully and comfortably decorated. Buses use the street below day and night, which is a little noisy, but is quite convenient if you wish to get around the city by bus. There was both a pharmacy and a small store immediately adjacent which was also quite convenient. We enjoyed talking with the owners and found the information that they provided about Montevideo invaluable. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
