NO KING BEDS! NO 'REAL' PARKING. False advertisng

Posted Jan 24, 2017
Pros: Very little.
Cons: Buy real king beds! Don't advertise free parking if not available. Paint/clean the facility from top to bottom. Make the roof terrace available.
Location: Close to old town. NOT close to any beach.
- Parking only available for three mini-mini cars. They wouldn't even allow me to park a compact size car. - Their version of a King size bed is two twin beds pushed together. Uncomfortable to sleep in with the hard spine of the two mattress edges running through the center. The hotel has NO KING BEDS. - They advertise 'roof' top terrace ... but it is locked 24x7. - Swimming pool is maybe 4ft deep and in a dark interior. - Breakfast is ok, but eggs cooked in sunflower oil are terrible and bacon is barely cooked. Lots of bread available. - No beach near the hotel. - Hotel is old and looking dated with mold and peeling paint. Only good thing I can say is that it is close to Old town. - Overall, would NOT stay at this facility again.

Ten delightful days in central Montevideo

Posted Oct 31, 2016
Stayed ten nights in this hotel for a business trip followed by a few days holiday. Enjoyed staying at this hotel very much. If you are looking for a corporate bed factory then this is not the hotel for you - you will find the the usual big brand name hotels elsewhere in Montevideo. If you are looking for a funky boutique hotel then this most certainly is for you. It is located in the Ciudad Vieja, the old town of Montevideo and close to the Plaza Independencia, the main central square. There are plenty of good places to eat throughout the old town, although some close quite early in the evening and some are not open on Sundays. First impression is that the hotel is full of art by local artists. The architecture reflects the building's history and marble abounds. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the continental breakfast is ample. In summary, this is a delightful place to stay which added to our enjoyment of the city. I happily recommend it and would be delighted to stay there again in the future.

Quirky and stylish hotel in the old town

Posted Oct 25, 2016
Esplendor is a quirky and stylish hotel. The staff are friendly and the rooms are nice. The swimming pool, though small, is very nice to have. My only small criticism is that the room lacked facilities with which to make tea - as a Brit I find this essential!

The reception is extremely friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself is beautiful with a personal feel to it.

Good value for the money

Posted Feb 1, 2016
Pros: Location, cleanness, friendly staff, large rooms
Cons: Breakfast, attention to detail in some public areas.
The hotel is at a relatively quiet location close to the downtown and near the sea promenade. The staff at the reception is friendly, accommodating and speaks good English. The rooms and the public spaces are furnished in simple yet stylish design. Housekeeping does very good job keeping the rooms and the public spaces clean at all times. The hotel seems newly renovated however some areas lack attention to detail in terms of maintenance. Breakfast can definitely be improved by wider selection, better quality coffee, timely table clean up. This is one area that needs attention of the management. Roof top terrace is not fully utilized. It could be turned into sun deck and/or roof top bar. At the time of my stay in the hotel it was just an empty space to walk around after breakfast. Pity for the nice view..

Hospitality, Honesty and Location

Posted Jan 27, 2016
Pros: Honesty and Service. I left all my cash behind when I left, within 24hrs it was found and sent back to me by western union. Need I say more...?
Cons: Nothing that I can see
Location: With Roof Top Breakfast dining, you can see you're in a great spot. Mercado del Puerto, Plaza Independencia, Plaza Juan Pedro Fabini
Just one blocks from Plaza Ing. Juan Pedro Fabini, where you can find locals dining under umbrellas while the kids and families enjoy the artistic garden and grounds of the plaza. It's full of life, music and great food. It's also a few blocks from a great stroll along the coastal drive called Rambla República Helénica where you'll find jogger's, local's fishing or just relaxing under the sun. It's a vibrant city thats easy to walk around in and learn the streets almost immediately. If you enjoy good food and great hidden spots, find your way to Mercado del Puerto, Piedras, Montevideo 11000, it's a building that has about dozen or so open eateries, with a huge flaming grill at each restaurant filled with the best meats, fish and vegetables pretty much in south america. You can either choose a table or sit around the flaming grill and watch the action. If you are a beef eater, then you truly found the best tasting tender beef you'll ever have. The taste even matches the smell while it's cooking. Chicken, Blood Sausage, Tenderloin, Fish, Vegetables, it's all there sitting on a flame waiting for you. This place is truly something you should not miss. You can't go wrong staying here, all the museums, galleries and plaza's are within your reach. Also, Uber is available there, as I used them for all my extended travels outside the city, so that a huge plus.
