Beautiful hotel!!Posted Oct 24, 2015
Beautiful old hotel. Very easy check in, room was clean. Bed was comfortable (for a hotel bed), didn't wake up with the normal "hotel bed" backache. Bar was nice, but was closed when we got back from our event at 11.30 or so. (We were there for a while in the afternoon, but they ran out of Bud Light because 2 weeks ago they got a wrong shipment..? 2 weeks ago?) Great place to stay for an event downtown. Will definitely stay there again, and highly recommend to our friends.

A treasure from the past.Posted Oct 8, 2015
Pros: Large rooms, beautiful decor. $2 beer in the bar during happy hour.
Cons: Very nice as is.
Location: Centrally located in downtown Utica and very close to the art museum, brewery, distillery, and zoo. Erie Canal boat cruises in nearby Herkimer.
This is an impressive old but well maintained hotel. The lobby and mezzanine are are beautiful. The rooms are large, clean, and have all the modern amenities. Breakfast is included in the room rate, which was just another $120 a night. The location in downtown Utica is ideal.

A real joy staying here!Posted Oct 7, 2015
Pros: It's Raison D'être!
Cons: They have what I call a "baseline" air conditioning system that kept the room so cool that I had to turn on the heat to counteract it.
Location: It's in a great location pretty much near the center of things and there is free parking.
This place originally opened in March of 1912. I understand that it fell upon hard times and was closed for awhile. It has since reopened with renovated (modern) rooms upstairs while keeping much of its original grandeur in the common areas such as the lobby, restaurant, and bar downstairs. I've seen some reviewers carp about the condition of the original antique ceramic tile floor downstairs but keep in mind that it's original, it's over one-hundred years old, and replacing it with flooring from The Home Depot just wouldn't be the same. The place has an authenticity that simply cannot be bought at any price.

Decent accommodations. Few restaurants nearby.Posted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: Good deal for the price. Close to interstate and major arteries. Staff members are pleasant, capable and helpful.
Cons: Furniture in rooms and lobby shows considerable wear. Room lacked luggage rack or place for luggage.
Location: Pretty much have to use car to get to decent restaurants, malls, entertainment, etc. Location is safe during the day, but is risky as night.
Room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Staff was excellent. Overall, good deal for the price.

Past it's prime -- way pastPosted Aug 19, 2015
Cons: staffing, cleanliness, maintenance
Location: Depressing downtown Utica, abandoned lots and buildings, parking lot is not secure.
The highlight here is the beautiful old lobby. It's all downhill from there. The rooms are OK, but this hotel is woefully understaffed , and cleanliness is spotty. We saw a cockroach scramble across the windowsill, inside, during breakfast, and often had to wait for a staff person to be available (at the front desk, at the bar), etc. We were first sent to a room that had not been cleaned, and then to a decent room, but this was a disappointing stay at best; we'll never come back.

Beautiful hotel. Pleasant staff. The only reason marked low on comfort is pillows were awful. Otherwise it was very nice. Neighborhood was a little sketchy but we didn't have any problems
