Not bad for the price, difficult desk staff

I’ve had 10+ years experience with North India hotels, from $120 in Delhi to $20 rooms in small towns.
The front desk staff are quite difficult to deal with. For example on this stay I was in need of Wi-Fi. HI has it, and in abundance, and claimed they had it as an amenity on Expedia. When I asked for the password they said they didn’t have Wi-Fi, problem with server or something like that, even though there were multiple available HI connections showing on my laptop and there was a router just outside my room. For some reason they were happier to offer me their internet in their business office after hours than give me the password. Since I booked on Expedia, there were extra bed/third person charges that I still owed to them directly. I told them I would pay the agreed charges when my issues with the hot water and Wi-Fi were resolved. Then the front desk lead still did not want to write it down for me but said he would call my room. On two different occasions he said this. In the end I brought my laptop to the front desk and then they gave it to me without objection. It worked quite well in the lobby and in my room, same password for multiple connections.
Our room didn’t have a switch for hot water. Our understanding was that hot water hours were in the morning and evening. But we had to ask the front desk to turn on the hot water for us at a certain time. Then there was an hour or so of warm water before it went back to cold.
