This hotel is beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Como. From the train station, it’s a leisurely 5 minute stroll. Our room had large windows with sweeping views of the lake. It is close to multiple restaurants and is adjacent to the ferry slip. The bustling town square is roughly 5 minutes away by foot.
The interior design matches the regal architecture. Antique wardrobes and paintings showed great craftsmanship. The room was spacious, and the views were phenomenal. There is air conditioning, but it operated under restricted hours. For our visit in September, the temperature was comfortable. There is a relatively large shower, toilet, and bidet in the bathroom, as well as a blow dryer. Water pressure was good. There was wifi, but at dial-up speeds. The mattress felt like 2 twin beds pushed together with a ridge down the center, but was otherwise comfortable.
The hotel was clean and staff wore masks. They were very friendly and helpful. They spoke English and presumably Italian.
Breakfast was available every morning. It was a buffet-style breakfast but was served to us due to COVID precautions. There was a good spread, including various pastries, fruit salad and fresh fruit, cured meats and cheeses, yogurt, eggs and bacon (on request), and coffee.
We enjoyed our time at Hotel Olivedo and would return. The location, views, hospitality, and breakfast more than compensated for any minor discomforts with the wifi or bed.
