Quiet Luxury

Posted Sep 16, 2017
Pros: Ambience, decor, facilities, room and breakfast (yummy ricotta and salmon)
Cons: no need for continual muzak pool side.
Location: Very close to Castello d'Angelo, Vatican City and a 15 minute walk to Via del Corso/ Piazza del Popolo.
Excellent location, although within walking distance of most sites, it feels like a little oasis in the middle of a hectic city. Very pleasant staff, helpful yet not obtrusive. Had an excellent room, spacious, clean, modern, all the amenities you could want, all with a view of the gardens. Noticed a few 'irks'on other sites regarding breakfast and the added extra's if you want more than the buffet. You don't need anymore than the buffet, there is plenty of choice and it's delicious: fruits, cereals, sweet pastries, breads, yoghurts, hams, cheeses, salmon, eggs, waffles, donuts, fresh fruit juices - oh and prosecco. Swimming pool was lovely - plenty of space and sun loungers. Contemporary yet comfortable feel to the place. Liked the uniforms the staff wore in the morning. My only little grumble would be the pool side music - I'm not sure it could be anyone's taste. It was so tranquil there was no need for the piped 'muzak'. Would definitely return.

Relaxation at its best

Posted Sep 16, 2017
Pros: Staff, facilities, location, resturant options.
Cons: Nothing of note.
Location: Easy walking to Vatican and central Rome. Locally there are lots of things to do and see. We love the local shopping around Campo di Fiori.
Great location and great staff. Only stayed for one night but will be back. Easy walking distance to central Rome. Pool and spa provided a great way to relax after sight seeing, and shopping. Room was available even though we arrived early. Staff were very attentive to make our stay perfect. The junior suite had all the amenities we needed and justifies its 5 star rating.

When in Rome...

Posted Aug 31, 2017
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a concierge (Roberta) who was extremely attentive. She arranged for our luggage to be taken to the room, and we were seated in the poolside lounge with complimentary glasses of prosecco. The location of the hotel was perfect - a stone's throw from The Vatican City and The Tiber. The food and drink within this five-star hotel was, perhaps understandably, extremely expensive. After days of walking many kilometres sightseeing and taking in the culture, the excellent pool and facilities provided luxurious respite!

Nice Hotel, Unbelievably awful service.

Posted Aug 26, 2017
Booked a Room with Private Garden. Emailed hotel to book airport transfer was informed it was twice as much as Expedia tells you on the conformation itinerary. No biggie. Booked exclusively because we had planned on using the spa daily and got 15% off spa services. At check out, only received 10%. Ok whatever. Hot Stone massage was quite awful, hot stones went on your hands and then got a massage so soft that I almost fell asleep twice. Not the muscle relaxing/awakening experience you come to expect. Or at least that I've had at other spas. The shower room had no exhaust so you heat the whole room while showering. The bathroom is separate from shower room, it has a sliding tini double door thats basically a curtain and with no exhaust or anything to make noice in there any move can be heard throughout the room. Had to call maintenance twice because toilet would not stop draining water. Mini Bar $8 Euro 100ml Coke and up. Room Service forgot eggs one morning, ordered ceasar 3 times, 2 were great third time forgot the cheese? Last night before falling asleep desided to confirm our airport transfer was scheduled and was told it wasnt! Was asked to show the email conversation when I booked it and literally was at the lobby at midnight the night before our 6:30am transfer showing my phone to the night manager. OVERPRICED and UNDERSERVED. Was added a ridiculous amount at checkout for a "Room Rate Adjustment" with no explanatiom... Staying away from Melia Resorts.

Stunning hotel in a great location

Posted Aug 25, 2017
We stayed for 3 nights and can genuinely say this is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. The staff are fantastic, the grounds are beautiful and the pool is perfect for relaxing after a full on day of sight seeing. My only small issue was the price of food and drinks at the pool area. It was a little excessive (€22 for a rose spritzer) and the portion sizes were small, however, we did not let this affect our holiday which was amazing.

Top hotel. Perfectly situated. Very attentive staf

Really nice hotel - perfect to mix a sightseeing and relaxion holiday. Prices in house are very expensive but they can be avoided. Also the commission they charge on extra items (through their concierge service) is ridiculous. 100% fee (ie. Double the price)

This hotel is lovel with a very accommodating staff. The hotel's major drawback is also its major asset -- it's more like a resort than a city hotel. So while it's prettyinconvenient to walk anywhere to sightsee or eat, the hotel -- with its lovely pool and spa -- is a great retreat from the action and heat of the city, particularly if you're travelling with kids.

Very disappointed that this hotel is advertised for families. Yet there is NO child menu at all. I was told that there could be slide of cheese and a slice of tomato made up for her. She is two! That's not a meal. Food and drinks were ridiculously priced and lunch time food was not great. No bathroom near the pool area was crazy! If you are soaking wet from the pool you have to wait to dry and re dress every time to go pass the check in desk to use bathroom.

Dear Guest, thank you so much for your visit. While grateful for the overall appreciation of your experience, we are surprisingly regretful for your comments related to the gastronomic experience. Since our property is family friendly, I wish to ensure that we do take seriously the children's needs trying to accomodate each request without a specific kid menu, which they all propose the same items. Instead, we prefer to tailor make a nice, fresh dish according to our small customers needs. Remaining at your disposal for any further information, we hope to welcome you back to Gran Meliá Rome for you next visit to the Eternal City. Kindest regards, Maria Ansalone Guest Experience Manager
