A Great Beatuty

Posted Aug 29, 2015
Pros: We enjoyed the cleanliness, perfect beds, the setting. (Read above)
Cons: Pretty perfect.
Location: Lights at Palais du Papes (night). Garden, Ferry ride over Rhône River. Bus to St. Remy on Wed market closes at 1:00, Les Beax (buy tapestry)
The antique and simple beauty reflect this peaceful setting of Hotel Cloister Saint Louis. The soft morning light brushes the roof tops, the shade of the tall trees are so pleasing to the eye where the green leaves compliment the red tiled roofs. In the evening, the enchanting coo of the pigeons adorning the roof will certainly lull you to sleep. The beds are perfect! The hotel is within the old part of the city and yet close enough to the bus and train station. We appreciated the refrigerator so we could tuck away sandwiches from the near by boulangerie. The garden was a delight to see and eat in. We ate both breakfast and dinner, all of which were delicious and satisfying. Clean and beautiful is the best way to describe our restful stay. The restaurant staff were very prompt in pleasing. Housekeeping was perfect. Every detail and need was taken care of while we were away to play. Hotel Cloister Saint-Louis is walking distance to grocery stores, plenty of shopping and restaurants. Just outside the large doors will lead you to very near and good restaurants.

Très bel hôtel

Posted Aug 28, 2015

Great hotel for City break

Posted Aug 22, 2015
Pros: Very historic and stylish, cool in various senses of the word. Great food and very friendly staff, waiters and reception staff all very pleasant.
Cons: Small things - better cups and glasses in room, proper hangers for clothes.
Location: Close to main street, Rue de la Republique and Tourist info. Plenty of restaurants and bars and modern art gallery within two minutes walk.
It was a great place to stay - full of character as it was a 16th century building which had been cleverly remodelled to a high standard. Modern rooms were stylishly minimalist facing onto a pleasant green courtyard. Space had been used very cleverly so that there was plenty of room for clothes (sometimes an issue in new hotels) and a separate loo and bathroom. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were expensive but worth it because the food was plentiful and delicious. Had dinner there twice and both meals were beautifully cooked and presented from an interesting menu. Rooftop pool was quite small but plenty of space to lie on deckchairs close by and soak up the sun. It was within the historic city centre and 10 minutes away from Palais des Papes. Watch out for mosquitoes though, as we were quite badly bitten when dining in the hotel garden and on our balcony.

A Glorious Lodging with a Very Good Kitchen

Posted Aug 19, 2015
Pros: As above.
Cons: I do think that, if indeed this hasn't been done, some specs, including bed heights and bathrooms, should be re-designed for disabled persons
Location: Walking distance (except on the most blazing hot days) to most of the great attractions of Avignon, and any day to singularly fine alfresco living.
We had never expected to stay in lodgings of authentic 17th-18th C. splendor, but this is the place. Complete, beautifully maintained and, in a quiet little street just off the hurly-burly of a city, in fact within Walking distance of the main train terminal. But peace reigns inside the gate, in the graveled main courtyard, with huge trees and its constant play of light and shade, the rippling sound of waters from the extraordinary centerpiece of the fountain (a gigantic rough boulder covered in deep-green moss), and space. There is another peaceful and beautifully planted garden, smaller and more intimate than the courtyard, where you can sit and read a book, or breakfast, lunch, or dine alfresco. The combination of shade and bright light is important in that southern climate, but sunlovers and swimmers will enjoy the roofgarden, which gives amazing views of higher parts of the building complex and some distant outlooks. The new building, which externally harmonizes with the old, is all industrial chic. It also contains elevators, but the room we saw was neither designed nor suitable for handicapped persons. At a human level, we enjoyed our visit because of the helpful staff, who even remembered our names.

Hôtel proche du centre et confortable

Posted Aug 18, 2015
Parking disponible bien pratique.

lovely one night stay, great location close to the centre but easy to access and park a car. Pool was lovely for a cooling dip to escape the city heat.

Mixed experience!

Posted Jul 4, 2015
Old part of hotel looks fab, cloisters, chapel, nice garden for breakfast. But our room was in the modern part. Here the furniture was shabby, the chest of drawers was falling to pieces, bathroom was very cramped and the toilet room was so small I ended up using the loo by the restaurant. It was also a big shame that the swimming pool was not open as it has no water in it. This was not nearly as good as other 4 star hotels we have stayed at. Breakfasts were good!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

Posted Jun 23, 2015
Pros: Perfect location, and the hotel itself is like you got to step back in time.
Cons: Wi-Fi was weak, and in order to FaceTime back home we had to sit by the pool. Inconvenient, but we found a solution.
Location: Close proximity to train station and to the Papal palace. Great boulangeries near by.
Staff are courteous and helpful. Rooms are amazing and walking around the hotel is so lovely. Definitely felt like you were walking around history. Perfectly located by train station. Took train from Paris to Avignon Center, and then only 5 minute walk to the hotel.
