Excellent staff, good location, no four-star hotel

Posted Mar 25, 2017
Pros: There are two things to commend this hotel: the friendly staff and the location. Excellent access by water taxi. Accademia stop by vaporetto.
Cons: Hotel needs an entire overhaul: the furnishings are old, sheets and pillows need to be 4 star and the breakfast should improve.
Location: Excellent location: 5 min walk from St Mark's; 5 mins from Accademia; 15 mins from Rialto.
Ok, admittedly, hotels are a crapshoot in Venice, but don’t bet on this one. Someone who is coming here because they are expecting to stay at a four-star hotel should look elsewhere. Our room had a broken closet mirror, plastic cups, only one, tiny rubbish can. A postage stamp sized bathroom meant toiletries toiletries had to be stowed outside the WC. A four star hotel should have facility for making tea or coffee. The sheets, pillows and towels were good for a 2-3 star hotel, but not one where one is paying 4-star rates. The breakfast, while *possibly* adequate for a three star hotel, is definitely not well enough appointed for a four star one: one expects hot breakfast options, a wider variety of cheese and meat (this is Italy!), a means of toasting one’s bread (in fact no sliced bread was available), real not artificially sweetened juice from a mix, a variety of croissants not just jelly filled ones, a coffee machine whereby one can make one’s own coffee as one wishes. Other reviewers have noted how hot their rooms were. Ours was unbearably so: the heat was off and it was still so warm one couldn’t sleep with any covers on. I have no idea where the heat was coming from, but it was intense. If one opened the window, it being spring, one was harassed by mosquitoes. Beware of “room with a view” unless by “a view” you think of looking across to the back of a tired balcony and rusted out pipes.

Uncomfortably hot room.

Room too hot but when complained we were told air conditioning not switched on as wrong season! Room tired and needs some updating/decorating.

Not Too Far from Anything

Posted Mar 18, 2017
Pros: Very convenient to the sights in the area of San Marco. It's quiet, and seems to have an international clientele.
Cons: The building is drab, the public areas uninviting. The bar functions only now and then. The English of the desk people is sketchy. Not a "destination"
Location: The lively Campo S Stefano is three minutes away, and the L'Accademia bridge just beyond that. Touristy concerts in the Chiesa S Vidal nearby
Once you find the Dragomanni, you realize it's a brief walk to San Marco, and even less to L'Accademia. There's a gondola station right at the end of the alley, in case you want to hit the water. It's far enough off the beaten path to seem secret and homey.

Molto Bello.

Posted Mar 11, 2017
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing needs to be improved. Just keep it up!!
Location: When in Venice, do as much as possible. Buy tickets for members from the Venezia Symphony to play Vivaldi in nearby church.
A wonderful hotel with very nice and helpful staff. So very much reminded me of cool hotels in Midtown Manhatten. Grazie, Hotel Dei Dragomanni for a great experience. I'll be back.

Pros: We loved the location and the friendly helpful staff.
Cons: After hours access without having to disturb the front desk.
Location: Very close to San Marco square, and there's a water taxi drop-off extremely close to the hotel. Lots of shopping and sites to see close by.
This was our first visit to this hotel so we were unsure what to expect. Very easy to find with a map, and the gentleman working the front desk was EXTREMELY helpful with everything we needed, from finding a late night restaurant to how to work the thermostat in our room! The continental breakfast was above and beyond what we expected....pancakes, cereals, croissants, fresh fruits, juices, yogurts, even cookies and desserts! The staff was always friendly, always willing to help, and they let us store our bags on our check-out day until it was time for us to head to the airport later in the evening. There's even a lounge you can wait in (with a bar and restroom) until it's time for you to leave. The room was comfortable with a big bathroom. We did not opt for a room with a view so the view out the window was of a wall, however, it did overlook an alley which was quiet enough to sleep with the window open at night. The queen size bed was comfortable and the amenities in the bathroom were nice (i.e. heated towel rack and shower massage.) The only thing that caught us off guard was that if we were planning to stay out late, we had to inform the front desk so they would know. When we came back late we had to ring a doorbell and have a front desk person let us in. This was certainly no big deal, just a little different from what we were used to. However, in Venice, we quickly discovered there's really no reason to stay out late. We loved our stay!

Great location, perfect hotel in Venice

Posted Feb 28, 2017
Dei Dragomanni is a very nice hotel, just meters off Grand Canal, opposite the Peggy Gugenheim Museum. San Marco square is 5 min. away. We had a lovely large room with a separate sitting area and a large terrace with view towards Grand Canal. The bed and the pillows were quite comfortable. TV with many channels including sports, main UK and USA news channels. The bathroom was large, with bidet, separate bathtub and shower. Good speed Wi-Fi everywhere. Breakfast also very good, included in the price. Would stay again at this place when in Venice.

Quiet hotel in Venice

Posted Feb 26, 2017
Pros: The upgrading and the complimentary drink at the bar on our first evening - we arrived about 9 pm, so that was welcome and appreciated.
Cons: Even with the heating off, the rooms were very warm at night with the duvets provided. We had to open the windows at night to cool sufficiently.
Location: The hotel is in a quiet calle, a very few minutes walk from the Giglio vaporetto stop - so it is convenient for the whole of Venice.
We booked two single rooms, but were upgraded to two single-occupancy double rooms. These were nice and spacious for one person, though the amount of drawer space would have been rather little for two people. The rooms were clean, quiet and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms were also spacious and clean - plenty of room here for toiletries. Fairly standard breakfast, with usual cold meat and cheese. The pastries were excellent, better than the fresh fruit salad. As part of a combined flights and hotel deal through Expedia I thought it was excellent value. I would go back there.
