Close To everything, walking distance...

Posted Feb 21, 2018
Cool stay and simple. Not much of a hotel to hang out at, but you've got the pier and downtown nearby walking distance. I liked the easiness. Parking was a breeze.

Overlooking the freeway-train tresses block ocean.

Posted Feb 21, 2018
Pros: The young staff at the front desk were very pleasant. Maintenance quickly replaced the batteries in our ac remote.
Cons: Double pane windows, better quality towels, environmentally friendly practices and updating of decor would greatly help.
Location: Buena Ventura is so small any motel in the vicinity is a good location.
We stayed on the third floor facing the ocean. All ocean views are obscured by the freeway and train tresses. The noise from the freeway made the enclosed patio very undesirable. In fact we were disturbed by the freeway traffic and train noise well into the night even with all windows closed. Half of the first floor was under renovation. In our room there was visible water damage and rust surrounding the restroom door. There was a softball size red stain on the carpet in the entrance way of our room. Tile around the fireplace was badly chipped. Fireplace screen was visibly dusty. Towels were horribly rough and thin. No duvet cover on the white comforter. The breakfast buffet used Styrofoam plates, plastic cutlery, and cups-a horrible waste and burden on the nearby ocean environment. The scrambled eggs and sausage were ok, but the bacon was overly stiff and skinny. Coffee was hot and a decent variety of cold cereal, as well as, oatmeal- to be served in disposable/Styrofoam bowls.

A hidden gem

I love Ventura and I didn’t know this place existed. I will definitely return. It is so much better than I expected for the price. A real deal.

Best personal service at a hotel ever.

Posted Feb 14, 2018
The hotel manager, Jason, took fabulous care of us when Expedia was not helpful at all. Location great for walks on the beach & watching surfers. Breakfast exceptional. The hotel is clean and welcoming even though they are remodeling. Stayed in a remodeled room - very nice improvements.

The room needs at least 2 comfortable chairs.

Posted Feb 13, 2018
Pros: Spacious room. Very clean.
Cons: See comments above.
Location: Good location. Nice breakfast available.
A lamp or overhead light is needed over the divan so one can have a comfortable place to read. The room was very dark in this area.

This hotel is very close to top restaurants & bars

Posted Feb 12, 2018
The only drag is there is 1 elevator so you have to wait several minutes between breakfast and evening. The picture is the back of the hotel, not showing you the 101 freeway and the train that comes behind the hotel. They are renovating, the breakfast area desperately needs renovation.

Nice stay, No Noise to speak of. Easy walk to all the downtown sites and restaurants and bars. Should have been an easy chair in the room to watch TV... Will stay here again

Ok hotel

Posted Feb 6, 2018
Cons: Having at least 2 trash cans in each room, better explanation of how the food tickets worked
The hotel is under renovations which we knew so we expected some issues. Overall we had a good stay, quick check-in and out, room was clean and ready for us when we arrived. It would have been nice to have been informed that they were doing work on the room next to ours as we had a toddler with us and nap time was a little rough with the noise. There was only 1 trash can in the whole room which was a bit of an inconvenience, also the breakfast food was ok. We booked this room with a discount but not sure I would feel that it would have been worth full price. The staff were very nice and helpful.

Very dated and isolated location

Posted Feb 3, 2018
Pros: Every staff person I met was very courteous and friendly and the rooms were clean, just terribly outdated and shabby.
Cons: Work on improving the common areas. Also, train front desk staff to be more knowledgeable about Ventura's restaurants and other areas of interest.
Location: There was no hotel room welcome packet or any information about what to see and do in Ventura which is always something I read when staying at hotels.
Although I read numerous references to remodel work in progress and saw some evidence of this, the room I was given on a slow night was in a time warp. Bathroom seemed the only part that was somewhat updated and it was clean. The clerk at the front desk was courteous but he was not familiar with restaurants in the local area and not able to make a recommendation. And, although it mentioned access to the beach through an under-crossing, there was no obvious way to find it... one direction I tried had an active homeless encampment that I didn't feel safe as a woman traveling alone to broach. unfortunately, I will not book a room there again.
