The Vagabond is a great roadside attraction from the glory days of highway 101 (non-freeway), it has suffered the last few years with the loss of the restaurant and the fact that many rooms are vouchered to the homeless. Yet, that is a good thing- and were my circumstances ever so dire, I'd suggest this to be an honorable effort by the hotel's BOD (Board of Directors) I never felt unsafe, and it is perfectly located for visiting downtown Ventura. Indeed, as a result of COVID19, the City has closed four blocks of Main St. providing for outdoor eating, etc. The facility is also directly adjacent to the walkable freeway overpass to the beach and pier. All in all, given my business reason for being in VTA and the price with DOGS ALLOWED, I've no complaints. Little things, e.g. noise from adjoining rooms, poor lighting in room, limited cable have to be factored against the under $100 price for my visit. Besides- it's a part of Ventura. Everyone was friendly, I didn't see much of the staff because I didn't have the room done every day, but bed and shower were great.
