A Pleasant Surprise Indeed

Retired, single and travel a fair bit. Picked this hotel as it was a 10 minute walk from the train station, about the same or less to Piazza Bra and it is a Best Western Hotel, a hotel chain that I am familiar with when living in Canada and the USA.
In Canada and the USA, this would be rated a Best Western Plus at least, probably Premiere category.
I was in Suite 120 that had a Queen sized bed, a spacious bathroom (a Jacuzzi tub with half shower enclosure and body spa jets inside the enclosure) and was well appointed. Plenty of clothes storage, TV with English speaking stations (BBC, CNN, CNBC, RD and NHK English), a large work desk with complimentary tea, kettle and the like, a heating/cooling system that works well and is relatively quiet. Even though facing a busy street, with the windows closed it was quiet. It also has automatic shutters you can activate from consoles on each side of the bed - very nice touch indeed (the consoles also let you turn off the reading lights and have a privacy button to indicate this for the outside door). You also have complimentary slippers but sadly, no bathrobe, still fine by me.
This is a solid 4 star hotel. I would rate it higher but that would not be fair as I have stayed at some of Italy's grand hotels which are solid 5 stars due to their amenities, cache and history (e.g., Grand Hotel Gardone Riviera in Lago di Garda, Imperial Hotel Tramontano in Sorrento).
The staff were great too. The breakfast had hot and cold dishes, perfect.
