Wonderful balcony is star of show.
Beds were very flat and left a lot to be desired. The sheets however were a welcome refuge and were very soft and clean. The air conditioning worked wonderfully! The outlets in the room were not working and we had to use the one in the bathroom to charge everything. The hairdryer… stuck in the 80’s, however it did the job. Service is wonderful and the workers are very kind!

It was close to the beach, staff very pleasant and breakfast was good. Hotel also has a dining room where you can go as an option. The food and service was very good. The room was good for the value and clean. Our stay was good.

This hotel is well placed, between the train station and town centre, making it really convenient (also has garage parking, something that is a real bonus in Tropea) while only a couple of minutes walk to the start of the Main Street and shops. Staff are friendly are the breakfast adequate. My single room was a ‘genuine’ single, very compact, but with balcony and a wonderful view, something rare for a single!

Fine hotel close to the centre as well as station
The hotel is located 5 minutes on foot from the railway station and from the centre, 10 minutes to the beach. It is an older hotel, but very well maintained. Room is of a reasonable size, has a balcony and a window in the bathroom. Breakfast is fine, standard 3* variety. At the beginning of October, unbeatable value for money ratio for my stay.

We chose this hotel purely on price so did not have any great expectations, but what a lovely surprise. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. All the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Vincenza who seemed to be a permanent fixture behind the reception desk. The buffet breakfast was excellent. we had a lovely stay

A Couple of Swells
We chose this hotel purely on price and had no great expectations. So what a lovely surprise when we checked in. Not too far from the railway station and close to the centre of the old town, all the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous, particularly Vincenza who seemed to be a permanent fixture behind the reception desk. Our room was spacious clean and comfortable. The wifi reception was good and the buffet breakfast excellent. I could not recommend it more highly.

I often winge about the location and views from single rooms - not this time, I had a balcony with a sea view. The location is excellent between the station and centre of town and about two minutes walk from the Main Street. Very friendly staff. Only drawback was no secure luggage storage - simply leave luggage in the corner of the bar if you are leaving late in the day.

Had a very nice time. Everyday the room was cleaned superbly, though there was a lack of ability to use WiFi throughout the hotel. Appart from the main lobby, by using their own personal WiFi. Breakfast was very limited, as there wasn't much hot food. Only warm croissants or the ability to get warm milk from the coffee dispenser. They do give you a fridge in your room but no kettle. No entertainment but that was cured by the surrounding area having countless restaurants and social gaverings. The view from my rooms balcony was amazing, as we got to overlook Tropea beach and watch the sunset. Though, there are unfortunate rooms that face a rather unflattering block of flats as my bathroom did. Very easy to get to from the train station and a couple minutes walk from the beach.

Great location
The hotel is very tired and needs up dating. The bathrooms especially and the lighting in the room was awful. It was all very dated and between the mattress and the pillow it was like sleeping on a concrete slab. Also our room was right opposite the cleaners store room which in turn disturbed our sleep as they start early and were noisy.Best thing about the hotel was the location. This hotel could be fabulous with a complete refurbishment.

Average hotel. Staff were friendly but their English was not that good. Rooms were very dated, felt relatively clean and size was ok. Good location right near the centre of town. Make sure you use the garage offered by the hotel, our car was stolen off the street which caused all sorts for dramas!

The Hotel was not in a bad location on the website it misleads you by saying private beach though there was no private beach and they were charging you to have a shuttle to the beach. The people there were very difficult to work with i had several problems that they didnt even think about fixing and the rooms were small and outdated. The bathroom was cleaned improperly and i would not even shower there. I went to a friends hotel to shower. I would never ever again stay in this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone.

Only stayed one night but enjoyed the stay. Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good - lots to choose from - and staff very helpful. Wifi was only available at reception but off street parking made up for that. Easy walking distance to restaurants etc

The Virgilio is a nice average small town hotel. The elevator begins one floor up from the lobby so persons with mobility problems may have a problem. The desk clerk did not speak english, but I had no problems checking in with a copy of my reservation. I had a room with a single bed. It was very neat and clean, but very small and the bed was thin but firm. The room had a small TV, desk, refrigerator and air conditioning. The bathrooms was very clean and the plumbing all worked fine with plenty of hot water. I was only there one night otherwise I woulld have felt the room was a bit spartan. I had been sailing with some friends and they also needed rooms for the night but had not made any reservations. They were able to get two double bed rooms. They were also satisfied with their rooms and the hotel. The hotel had a bar area and a restaurant that served breakfast with the room. I did not use the restaurant or bar, but my friends thought the breakfast was acceptable. WiFi was advertized at the desk, but I could not get it to work, but there was a PC with internet available in the lobby. The hotel is conveniently located five blocks from the train station, two blocks from the town square, and walking 6 blocks will access most of the oldtown area, resaurants, and beaches. Althought the beaches are 150 meters below the town, down a very long stairway or an expensive taxi ride. It is not a fancy resort style hotel, and I would not spend more that two or three nights there, but it I was very satisfied.

Don't do it!
After a most inhospitable sojourn at the Hotel Virgilio, I must report the following. The hotel’s operation was positively shameful! I am quite certain that I was the only guest in the hotel, and as such, might be permitted to think that a modicum of service would not be too difficult to obtain. They advertise that they provide breakfast, lunch and dinner between specified hours; however, when I enquired about lunch I was told that they couldn’t do anything until the evening. I was very hungry and this was a very unwelcome response. I presented myself at dinner and they had to turn on the lights as, of course, I was the only customer and I might add this was not done cheerfully. I was not given a menu but basically informed of the small selection they were prepared to grudgingly provide. I decided to keep it easy and ordered a steak, potatoes and a small salad. The steak was so thin it could only have been shaved with a deli slicer and this is not in any way an exaggeration. The salad was a pitifully small plate with a few bits of lettuce and a few slices of tomato – oil & vinegar came in sachets. For this I was charged 20 Euro! My expectations weren’t grand, simply a clean room for a night’s rest. The room was at least, clean. As for rest, well, the hotel provided a continuous cacophony of sounds of indeterminate origin, possibly plumbing – this with no guests! They advertise 24 hour reception but they didn’t bother to answer the phone which simply continued to ring until the caller gave up. I was on the second floor but the ringing echoed throughout the hotel. The complete lack of soundproofing would ensure that guests are intimately aware of their neighbour’s activities and with the hotel fully occupied, even efficient earplugs would work overtime. Possibly the worst part was the bed. It was spectacularly uncomfortable. I suspect the tile floor would have been more accommodating. Not only was it rock hard but it actually PUSHED BACK! In the middle of the night I exerted myself to turn the mattress over wondering if they had put it the wrong way up. Nope, just hard! The only reason to stay at the Hotel Virgilio would be to avoid sleeping in the street.

Hotel Bonito y comodo que Ofrece desayuno variado. Se encuentra cerca de la Aérea peatonal del centro de Tropea . Se encuentra fácil aparcamiento en las inmediaciones, de lo contrario el ofrece ofrece el servicio de “garage” pero se necesita reservar con antelación. Cómodo para una estancia breve entre amigos o en solitarios

Pulizia tutt'altro che impeccabile, nonostante l'insistenza delle signore per entrare in stanza. Complimenti alla signora che si occupa della cucina, la colazione era davvero buona. Bene il servizio alla reception, escluso il portiere notturno: se una delle caratteristiche annunciate è "reception 24h", io mi aspetto di trovarlo.

L'hotel è abbastanza vecchio, ma comunque tenuto bene. Premetto che non avevo grandi pretese e ho scelto l'hotel per il costo contenuto e la vicinanza al mare. Nonostante ciò, anche se datato, credo che con piccoli accorgimenti si potrebbero migliorare alcuni aspetti, in maniera del tutto economica. Ad esempio, il materasso nella mia stanza era abbastanza scomodo, le molle puntate sulla schiena si facevano sentire al risveglio. Oppure, il lavandino del bagno completamente otturato(l'acqua ci metteva due minuti per scendere.) La colazione era di per sé buona, anche se: il caffè della macchinetta era imbevibile ( in italia non si può bere un caffè cattivo..) ma ho scoperto poi il ginseng e questo invece era abbastanza buono. Il buffet composto da brioches buone, a volte torte, yogurt, cereali, salumi, fette biscottate e marmellate. L'unica cosa che non capisco è la frutta sciroppata. Della frutta fresca sarebbe stata molto più buona e salutare, prodotto tra l'altro fresco e locale. Per il resto il soggiorno è stato piacevole, il personale estremamente cordiale, gentile e disponibile,mare meraviglioso con spiaggia a 10 minuti a piedi dall'hotel. Bella vista dalla camera: ho ammirato diversi tramonti. Per chi non ha troppe pretese e vuole farsi una vacanza all'insegna del relax lo consiglio.
