Old style hotel in the heart of town

Posted Apr 26, 2017
Pros: The old-style hotel atmosphere and great location. The harbour, Chinatown, restaurants, shops—all within easy walking distance.
Cons: The overly warm room temperature. Also, the tile grout in the shower recess needs a serious scrub. A suitcase stand would be a good addition.
Location: Check out Murchies (coffee, pastries and atmosphere) and Munro's books next door. Russell's books close by. Surrounded by 4 good pubs and many shops.
This was our second stay at the Bedford Regency, an old-style hotel in the heart of Victoria. The hotel has a loading zone on the street right outside the front door on Government for easy check-in. The parking lot cannot handle vehicles over 6 feet 2 inches high. Our pick-up was just over that so we had to park elsewhere. Street parking in Victoria is free from 6pm Saturday to 7am Monday, which really helped. The rooms are not large, but I like a cosy bedroom. The room was very warm, even though the thermostat was set at the lowest temperature. We experienced this the last time we stayed here. Opening the windows fixed this, but it seems like a waste of hydro. Fortunately we weren't facing the street, so it wasn't too noisy. The Bedford has internal access to a couple of good pubs and is surrounded by other great eateries. We needed to get a quick bite before walkin over to an event in Chinatown, so this really helped. Given we couldn't use the hotel parking, we were grateful for the offer of an extra late check-out on Sunday after a late night Saturday.

Don't Stay Here

Posted Apr 21, 2017
Pros: The location was perfect for walking down town, and there's an Irish bar next door where we had an AMAZING breakfast.
Cons: EVERYTHING. Fumigate for starters. Replace all your mattresses, bedding, carpet and furniture. Repaint your rooms. Gut your moldy bathrooms!
Location: Highly recommend the Irish bar next door. Skip the "Hop-On, Hop-Off" red buses. DO see Butchart Gardens--their high tea is EXCELLENT.
Two words: bed bugs. The best thing about this hotel is the location. Other than that, this place should be gutted down to the bare beams, fumigated, and completely remodeled. Don't let the other reviews (or the photos of allegedly nicer rooms with fireplaces online!!) fool you like they did me. This place is run-down and DIRTY, from the elevator with dirt and debris in the corners to the bathroom with pink mildew/mold blooming in 75% of our shower's grout, from taps with peeling white paint to an armchair with so many crumbs and debris under the seat cushion that it's obvious they don't vacuum the furniture. Also, our room clearly hadn't been redecorated since the 1980s. Every surface was painted a nauseating peach, and there was a hideous 80s-style peach/green floral print on the wall. The datedness of the decor only made us feel like the room was dirtier, because honestly, how hard is it to paint a room a nice, clean white or other neutral color every few years to freshen it up?? The fact so little attention has been paid to decor made us wonder what else was lacking attention. But the worst is that we we only stayed one night, and we were bitten by bed bugs, which we discovered shortly after checking out. This turned what should have been a fun over-nighter in Victoria into what is now a full week of bed bug paranoia that has had us furiously cleaning and washing everything we own for DAYS out of fear we brought them home. Not a nice way to end a trip.

Noisy

Posted Apr 15, 2017
Pros: Old in a good way.
Cons: Black out curtains.
Location: Lots of shops, restaurants and a mall nearby.
I should not have chosen a hotel downtown. Music from the restaurant/bar nearby kept us up till 1 am. Street lights were a problem also.

Clean and centrally located hotel

Posted Apr 9, 2017
This is an old hotel, but it's location makes it perfect if you are wanting to be able to walk around downtown Victoria. It is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable, prices are fair, and we will definitely stay there again next time we are in Victoria.

Totally central with a working wood fire in my roo

Posted Apr 8, 2017
Pros: Extremely central. Comfortable, nice desk to work form with the fire crackling away
Cons: maybe some cutlery and bowls so I can do my breakfast
Location: The most central hotel in town. Walk to everything. In heart of town
Love this place. I done know if all rooms have a fire but the 'Superior ' ones do. Go for it - they are great ! In-bath jacuzzi. Funky traditional decor but very comfortable and a good view from my windows - which will also open so you get rest air. Love it
