Fun idea, not a great stay

Posted Mar 26, 2017
Cons: Double-paned windows for sound proofing and temperature control. Smaller desk in room so one can open door to enter room without banging into it.
Staff were lovely and room clean. However, rooms were not sound proofed at all. It is on a busy strip of highway, you can hear every conversation happening around you and there is a massive construction project underway across the road.

Funky 50's feel

Interesting spot worth a visit. A bit more than walking distance from downtown.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Posted Mar 23, 2017
Pros: Cool visuals everywhere, friendly staff, proximity to bike trail, fun activities for kids.
Cons: The noise from the hot tub...but it only goes until 9pm. Typewriters needed TLC but even then my sons enjoyed typing inkless dents onto paper.
Location: Highly recommend biking on the galloping goose trail, in both directions. Bring a bike for your child if she/he is under 7 or a small 7.
I took my sons to the Hotel Zed for a spring break overnight, and we had a wonderful time. Hard to say which made for the most fun: the vinyl listening station ("These are very top earphones, not like cheap earbuds they have now," proclaimed my 7 year old), the whizzing dark Zedinator that was well worth the cold, wet treks up the spiral stairs, the sauna all to ourselves, the ping-pong tournament before breakfast, or our magical ride along the galloping goose trail on borrowed Zed bikes. The desk staff were very helpful from check-in to check-out, and Juan took the time to find us the right bikes and adjust the seats for us. We'll definitely be back in warmer weather. We had so much more fun than we would have had at a generic, pricer hotel.

Great family hotel

My kids loved the pool and slide. We loved the hot tub. The free shuttle downtown was a lot of fun.

Centrally located.

Very clean, friendly staff. No coffeemaker or microwave in room. Ran out of blankets, soap and toilet paper and had to go to front desk to get more. Older building. Easy to get to Mayfair Mall and downtown. Lots of parking on site, if a bit tight.

Fun for the kids

Posted Mar 16, 2017
My kids (ages 8 and 10) loved the funky look of this motel - especially the waterslide and the ping pong room. They even didn't mind that you have to go outside to get onto the waterslide and used it many MANY times in the middle of March. The hotel itself is the best motel I've stayed at. I've stayed at much nicer hotels but for a motel this is about the best you can get I think. Since it's a motel there are some dated bathrooms and design features. Chips in the bathroom and a shower that doesn't always run hot with a short shower head perfect for kid-height but making an adult bend in half to wash the top of your head. The location leaves something to be desired and isn't really near anywhere walkable so expect to drive or use their shuttle to downtown but be warned the shuttle stop times vary and when we were there the last shuttle was at 330pm in the afternoon. Overall a decent place to stay that is really for kids or people who love kitsch.

Excellent stay for business and pleasure.

Fantastic stay! Super comfortable beds! Clean and well-maintained premises. Very accommodating staff! My family enjoyed responably flexible access to amenities while I was able to come and go for business appointments. We love this place!

Convenient to city for walkers and to public buses

Posted Mar 10, 2017
Pros: ZED is stunningly colourful and hospitable. A very good restaurant which serves food from 0800 is just off reception
Cons: Nothing important to change....it is very avoidable and charming.
Location: Walking or cycling along Galloping Goose trail and several good restaurants
Arrived later than scheduled minus a bag. Reception was spacious and included chairs, newspapers and coffee. When bag arrived just before 11 pm same day staff member on duty brought it up to our 2nd floor room. Service at this level is commendable as, after all, it is a motel.
