Good but facilities lacking

Biggest concern was the loud fan that ran all night and the window that was letting in air and was making high pitch noises. This is an old building and it shows even through the newly renovated rooms. During check in we were told that the gym and pool was closed and access would be a block away. However when going to our room we saw a sign that pointed to cardio equipment within the hotel..

The quintessential Victoria experience

Pros: Location in the heart of Victoria. Historical building. Afternoon tea in the lobby.
Cons: Bring back the Bengal Lounge!
Even while,under major renovations The Fairmont Empress made us feel like royalty. We stayed on the newly opened Gold Floor - gorgeous guest room and lovely Gold lounge with a large sun deck overlooking the harbour. Nice variety of breakfast items, apples in the evening and a few dessert items later in the evening. Pool,is under renovation but Fairmont provided taxi vouchers to a nearby hotel for a swim and hot tub. Only disappoint,met is that the venerable Bengal Lounge is gone - a real loss.

Fabulous hotel with character!!!!

Loved the gold upgrade!!!! You get a delicious breakfast buffet, Horsd'oeuvres, Dessert, free bikes...much more. The room upgrade is worth it! Great service and concierge to help with anything you need. See the photo of the gold lounge. We spent our Silver Anniversary here and it was well worth it. IMAX theater across the street.

Beautiful historic hotel

Pros: setting, location, ambiance, bed
Cons: shower head needs more options, adjustable arm and more spray settings, shower doors are terrible - water gets everywhere
Location: tons to do - shopping, site seeing, lots of restaurants
This hotel is amazing, we hope to return after the renovations are complete as the pool/spa/lobby etc were not open during our stay. Overall the location and setting is beautiful, the architecture of the building is stunning, we were in a newly renovated room which overall was quite nice. The bed was very comfortable.

Overall the hotel was very nice, the rooms have been renovated to a more modern look but the main entrance was closed as they are still renovating. Overall great location, very clean and a lot of history.

A Classic

Is undergoing exterior renovations so is in a bit of a mess right now. You enter from the back and doesn't look like the majestic beauty she is. And the staff is always outstanding. Our room was tecently tenovated but it is small. And with 2 tiny (old) elevators you will spend a lot of time waiting for them.

The hotel is "an experience"

Pros: Not much not to like! I mean nothing to not like!!
Cons: They're working on it
Location: Incredible location at the harbour in Victoria B.C.
This hotel is being remodelled to match its history with the decor of the 21st century- They're doing a fabulous job!

With the exception of one pretentious waiter in the bar every other staff person was not only polite but friendly!
