Iconic hotel....lovely location

Posted Nov 29, 2016
Pros: Besides the convenient and impressive location above the harbor and close to town, the hotel has an enchantment factor
Cons: it's under renovation and we were there during the off season, however, it seems there could be more restaurants available in the hotel
Location: Close to shopping, museums, parliament building, harbor and restaurants and the hotel restaurant has surprisingly good food
Great place for a get away...I love this old hotel, it serves modern needs yet seems like a throwback to days long ago.

Special

Posted Nov 25, 2016
Pros: Location is perfect. Room and bed so clean and the bed very comfortable. Amazing history.
Cons: The afternoon tea that they offer could be improved. Very expensive and the cost doesn't even come close to what you get. Tea wasn't even that hot.
Location: Location is perfect. Endless things to see and do.
I stayed here for 4 nights in an upgraded harbour-view room. Very nice. Staff at the make-shift lobby are very accommodating. The hotel is going through a huge restoration so the pool area was closed. That was too bad so I had to take advantage of everything it had to offer. Interesting decor that they have chosen for their renovated rooms and I thought that they would have maintained the classic old charm look but it seemed more IKEA.

Good option in downtown Vic

Posted Nov 24, 2016
Pros: The Gold lounge has been nicely done. There are always snacks, an honour bar and very good coffee and tea. It has a lovely view on the harbour.
Cons: There is a general lack of sophistication, but that is possibly part of the charm. It is probably unfair to compare Victoria with London, England!
Location: Location is perfect!
The Gold tier rooms have been refurbished now. Although a bit bland - the neutral grey thing that has become so boring - the layout was good and the bed was comfortable. I had a view onto the harbour, which is the best although you do hear traffic as I was only on the second floor. The staff are very friendly and helpful, which really was the best part. The refurbishment has made the hotel much more current, although as an interior designer, I am not sure all the choices were appropriate. It is certainly a vast improvement on the old Empress though.

Classy hotel with great tradition.

Posted Nov 18, 2016
Pros: Service by all staff-members was very much up to our expectations ,everyone we encountered was ready for us with a smile and greeting.
Cons: The reception-area is currently rebuilt -so the'' improvement'' is being addressed.
Location: Shops in the hotel and along the street were great ,harbor is across the entrance lawn-government houses&museum are within a short walking distance.
We have been guests off and on for 50 years (business& private) and were always impressed with the spacious layout and elegance of the hotel. Booked into a completely rebuilt& refurnished "Golden" service level on the 3rd floor we had a fantastic view at the harbor and B.C. Government-Buildings. Our room-decor was beautifully coordinated, bed very comfortable and bathroom spacious/modern!

最高のロケーションにあるホテル

Posted Nov 18, 2016

Very good experience!

Posted Nov 8, 2016
Location: perfect location for a launch pad for visiting Victoria. Easy to get to/from the floatplane, right beside downtown. Completely walkable.
the renovations on the north wing make check-in extremely difficult, mostly due to the lack of signage and circuitous route pedestrians have to take to find the external tent around back. The rest of the hotel experience, however, is absolutely top notch!

A big disappointment.

Posted Nov 7, 2016
Pros: Good bed, nice room, great shower.
Cons: Everything else.
Location: Located in the heart of Victoria directly across from the harbour with restaurants, bars and entertainment within walking distance.
I made the mistake of booking a top tier (Gold Club) room with a harbour view and concierge service during their most recent renovations. My room was to be ready at 4pm but I waited almost an hour (until just before 5) for my room booked days ago to come available (I was told they were 'inspecting' the room) so sat in the makeshift check-in area. I wasn't told but, because of my Gold Club status, was supposed to check-in on the 1st floor and could have waiting in a comfortable, full-service area for upgrade clients. Instead I sat in a large tent (really) and waited for someone to finally advise when my room was ready. Once in my room I discovered the TV wasn't working properly but fixed it myself by reseating the cables. My plan was to have a short nap before joining friends for dinner. That's when the grinding/drilling sound started emanating from the ceiling in my room. I attempted to call the concierge a few times but got no answer. I called the front desk and they sent someone to investigate. A staff member showed up shortly after and agreed that the noise was irritating and wouldn't allow me to sleep. He left. I won't go into more any more detail but should mention the iron provided in the room was broken and poured water over my clothes and the floor. This while I was waiting for the hotel to advise about the noise in the ceiling. I was moved to another room 2 floors below and facing away from the very view I paid extra to enjoy. Overall, the visit was a disaster.

Great Disappointment

Posted Oct 23, 2016
Location: seeing the sights, looking for places to eat, visiting Butchard Gardens, shopping.
Neither Expedia nor Fairmont Empress informed us at any time that the hotel was under renovation. This certainly curtailed services (breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails at the Bengal room) as well as negating the ambience for which one pays, after all. We have come to the Empress for 30+ years, traveling from Seattle, bringing guests from Europe, Australia and Japan and celebrating special occasions with high time at the Palm Court the only high about the afternoon tea was the cost per person -- $30 more than what we paid at the Fairmont in Banff. The room was overfilled, noisy, the servers were harried, and frankly, decorum was lacking. Sadly, our family of 7 concluded that this long planned special event did not live up to our expectation, in fact, was disappointing. Also, the logistics of checking in, having to come from the underground parking to the elevator, then walk through the convention center to the only available elevator to go to the room, and the cross 3 hallways to reach the room, is a bit much. There is no doubt that the hotel needs renovation as the rooms are beyond "quaint" (our granddaughter's opinion) and antiquated, but potential guest should be informed about the various problems so they can decide to actually stay at the Fairmont and put up with the present situation or go elsewhere. We would have been happy at the Westin. We are trying to not let his experience sour the good memories we have of many happy occasions at the Empress at better time
