Looks can be, and in this case are, deceiving

I booked this hotel as I had a layover in Vienna coming back to Chicago and selected it based on the descriptor used on their website "City Center", as well as the pictures on the website which gave it the appearance of it being a newer hotel with nice modern furniture and decor.
The location is not in a great part of town, but it is decent (at best) It is not located in the center of the city, which is really a 10 minute tax-cab ride away. Since we were there for a layover, this really didn't matter to us. The agents at the front desk were courteous and engaging. As we walked to our room on the second floor, you could really notice that either this property was not being taken care of, or they used cheap materials throughout the hotel which may appear to be nice, but are horrendous upon closer inspection. The corridor carpeting is a perfect example, which had a cool, urban, funky design but had the WORST stains I'd ever seen. This could be easily prevented if ownership had a preventative maintenance program and actually CLEANED the carpeting. The drain in the sink of our bathroom didn't work properly, but the manager did her best and even went the extra mile to buy a drain cleaner to attempt to resolve the problem, as well as gave us a gratis dinner at the hotel restaurant. Although the drain cleaner didn't resolve the issue, I understand the management did the best they could with the property they're working with. The shower was not really practical whatsoever
