Vienna city break
Posted Sep 16, 2016
My first impression wasn’t good. Because I had booked through Expedia and not the hotel directly I was asked to leave a €50 cash deposit in case I used the mini bar or caused any damage to the room. Having travelled to many cities across Europe this is the first time I have been asked for such a deposit, and it was unwelcome and in my opinion unnecessary – this is supposed to be a 4 Star hotel.
The room décor felt a little dated, and the wood work has seen better days.
There is little sound proofing between rooms or the corridor.
My room was facing Mozartgasse, and with the window open I could hear trams on Wiedner Hauptstrasse until quite late in the evening and early morning. Having said that, you have to accept some noise when staying in a city centre.
I found the wifi connection slightly erratic, but generally ok.
The hotel is 100 years old and has some history and character.
Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold food and drinks, although I didn’t think the pastries were the best. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
I ate an evening meal in the restaurant twice and was happy with the quality of the food and service.
The hotel is only 3 minutes’ walk from Taubstummengasse U-Bahn station, so convenient with heavy bags to and from the airport.
It takes around 10 minutes to walk from the hotel to the opera house, and it’s not far from Karlskirche. There is also a tram stop very close by on Wiedner Hauptstrasse.
All in all, a good location and a pleasant hotel.
