Good location close to the Coastal Camino. General facilities were good. My room had a couple of walk areas that looked wet from water leak. Room service did not make my room till after 4pm I asked the front desk to make it at 3pm and was waiting in their gym for it to be made. 4pm and it’s still not made. Quite unusual.

Great view over the city and the river. The hotel itself is interesting, but the rooms and corridors need to be refurbished. The room door was not opening properly, we had to shoulder push for it to open, and there were a few thing in the bathroom that were broken.

The location is amazing (although a car is highly recommended) and the staff is very nice and helpful. The breakfast is ok (it has variety and acceptable quality), lunch could be better (I only had lunch once though) and the dinner was too expensive for me. About the room I stayed, there were a lot of stains on the carpet and ocasional unwanted dust but it was comfy and pleasant overall. The spa works as it was supposed to.

The hotel has not been maintained well.... dirty and stained carpets in the room, pilling off paint, dirty walls and windows, bathroom lock did not work and the mirror wasn’t clean. We had to get our own pillows from the closet since the bed was not prep-ed. I will never stay here again. This hotel doesn’t deserve to be 4stars. I wonder how they were able to keep the ratings based on current conditions. 2stars maybe.

Good stay
The hotel does need some attention with little things like lightbulbs and switches etc but very clean and comfortable. Shame you have to wear a swimming cap in the pool and jacuzzi but this is probably same in most hotels out there. Breakfast was good and reception were really friendly and helpful.

Hotel on the hill
The room had two single beds and a second double bed in an adjacent room. The single beds are perfect, really comfortable. There is a lovely view of the river and bridge from the room but no balcony and the window doesn't open which was disappointing. The bathroom was clean and had a powerful shower with toiletries, towels and water provided, and there was a fridge in the room. Breakfast is buffet style and large and highly recommended. The gym is small but good, but the pool requires you to but a swimming cap for 5 euros which is a big extra price for a free to use facility. They should hire them for free if required! The negatives: Our room had a lot of stains on the carpet throughout the room. The hallway leading to the room is really uneven which bulges throughout the carpet. There is no stairs to the reception only a very small, very hot and slow lift. A room 2 down from ours was playing really loud music after midnight so I complained to reception who were apologetic but didn't seem to do anything about it. Ps the hotel is up a large hill so some people may struggle to enter if walking.

Extremely nice hotel. Staff good with young children, very welcoming. Lovely spa. Good breakfast spread and breakfast open for 3.5 hours. Cleaners did a great job in our room. Plenty of english instructions available and staff converse in English well. Would definitely return again.

We spent three nights here and found the staff to be extremely attentive and were of great help when arranging a visit to the Douro wine region. Although in need of an update, our room was clean and large with a comfortable bed and a beautiful view of the river. My beside light did not work but when I reported this to the front desk it was fixed by that afternoon. The spa facilities, pool and sauna were great - just note that bathing cap is required, available at the spa desk for 5€. The common areas of the hotel were inviting and breakfast was ample and served in a dining room overlooking the river. We loved the light smell of eucalyptus and the relaxing soft music playing throughout the hotel hallways. The hotel is situated across the river from Vila de Conde which has many shops and cafes. We also discovered the stunning beaches here with interesting rock outcrops and plenty of places to sit and be mesmerized by the waves. It is also very close to Porto (accessible by train or car) and also to the Porto Fashion Outlet Mall. We would stay here again.

Nice, but not a 4 star
The hotel needs to be updated. The carpet was worn thin and the blinds were all bent up. They advertise a/c, but in my room the buttons for the a/c had been removed. The floors were bumpy and uneven. Location was great. The hotel has potential, but shouldn’t be rated a 4 star.

Previous reviews set expectations - thankfully!
I can see how this USED to be a 4 star hotel. Had it not been for reading the other reviews prior to going I think I'd have been very disappointed, however having had my expectations set we were able to enjoy our stay and found some positives! The swimming pool is really nice, gym looked ok, and if you're ok with walking up/down a bit of a hill the location is pretty decent too. The town centre with lots a great restaurants, and the Metro are just a 10 min walk away. We also had a nice size room. In terms of the quality of the hotel though, it desperately needs some money spending on it! It could be a great hotel (again?) if only some money was invested in it, and some time was invested in the service (although most staff were helpful and friendly). It seems such a waste that this hotel is just being left to age ... and as a result seems overpriced.

60 style, reminds me of "Thunderbirds"
The hotel sits on the banks of the river Ave, on an elevated position, with views over the town and river. It is situated at the entrance of Vila do Conde, one of the nicest coastal towns in Northern Portugal. You can walk into the town in around 5 minutes. The building is a modern 60's style, in "Thunderbirds" fashion. Rooms are large and pleasant. The hotel operates a SPA, and pool. The breakfast room overlooks the bridge and river, leading to the town, and the view is quite spectacular. Despite the impressive architecture, the decor is looking a bit tired in places, and could do with some care and attention. Nevertheless, I will definitely be going back, and would recommend this to anyone passing through. Good value for money!

Our main issue has been the hotel staff. The daily staff especially, a young gentlemen doing the night shift has been very helpful. There was a bad attitude a sense of them doing you a favor just to be there. Bad check-in experience. And not much co-operation with any of our requests, it has basically been a "No" answer for the entire stay. So much that upon asking for a possible late check-out I was answered "NO" even before having had the chance to finish my sentence. there was no customer understanding or compromise or positive "let's see what we can do" attitude.

Average hotel but far from Porto
The hotel is situated on a river in a small town. It is located about 20 minutes walk from the sea and about 20 minutes from the metro station. It takes about 45 minutes to go to Porto by metro and the metro trains are very punctual. The hotel has a pleasant spa and swimming pool but the bathrooms were not well ventilated. the food was about average. Basically there was nothing special about this hotel but the main disadvantage for me was the distance from Porto.

The hotel was very nice and provided good value for the money. The staff members were very friendly and helpful. I would gladly stay again at the hotel. The only criticisms I have are as follows: 1) The hotel could use some minor renovation to improve its aesthetic appeal. 2) The complimentary breakfast was satisfactory; however, a couple of the buffet items were lukewarm when they would have been hot. Also, I would have liked a wee bit more variety in the buffet. 3) The wi-fi in my room was satisfactory. However, I did experience a few instances in which the connection was lost. These instances were infrequent and did not constitute a major problem. However, they were an irritation, albeit a minor one. Allow me to emphasize that these criticisms involve minor matters. The management may wish to consider instituting and promoting a shuttle between the hotel and the Santa Clara Metro station (which is part of the Porto Metro system). Perhaps such a shuttle could run every hour for most of the day, with an associated small fee (e.g., 5 euros) for hotel guests. (If the hotel has such a service, I was unaware of it.)

The hotel is situated in a very quiet area so a good sleep, especially after having arrived from Toronto, was much appreciated. The main public areas are very tasteful but the rooms and corridors are in dire need up an upgrade. Carpets are stained and walls are in need of some paint. That said the rates are very reasonable so you gave to decide.

Friendly and well located for a quieter stay
We found the staff friendly and helpful. The room allocated to us was very tired and in need of an update but we were offered an alternative which was lovely. We made use of the pool and spa area twice which really added to our short stay. The hotel is within easy reach of Porto by tram/metro and was great value for money and takes about 40 mins. The hotel had bikes for hire, perfect for a cycle up the coast on the cycle path. The restaurant had a good choice of vegetarian food.

We stayed for one night at the Santana Hotel it is a big hotel with a good location in Vila do Conde, with bars and restaurants whitin short walking distance. The hotel in itself is confortable however is a bit outdated. There were no toiletries available except for shower gel. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice! The spa area is good and with a nice view, but you will need a swimming cap to go in the pool (they sell them there in case you don't have one)

Hotel room was big, clean and had everything you'd need. Shower in our room 2102 wasn't very good, trickled water, however the spa facilities made up for this and we used those each day after our morning swim. Riverside views were stunning from all areas of the hotel/spa and we found the location very handy for a wedding in Trofa. Metro nearby for day trip to Porto.

Good facilities, poor room
We loved the spa, the communal areas and bar etc. The staff were so helpful giving us information about the local area and Porto. The only major issue we had was the room. It was out dated and could at least do with a lick of paint to bring it forward and look cleaner.

Mixed Experience
I am able to be very positive about the hotel staff, who were very helpful, fully competent and had a a most friendly, whilst respectful, attitude. The room was immaculately maintained throughout our stay. The wifi in the room was fast and reliable but the use of my laptop on the work surface was uncomfortable as the space between the end of the bed and the worksurface was insufficient to accommodate the chair. As I am sure that most customers of the hotel will need to use their laptops for both personal and business needs and the provision of a small desk and chair in the corner of the room would be much appreciated. The Restaurant was most disappointing. We had all decided to have fish items off the menu for our main courses only to be told that no fresh fish was available. After dinner two of us ordered coffee and brandy, after short time the waiter returned to to tell us that the hotel had no brandy. Even the most modest restaurant in Portugal will always have an ample stock of Macieira !!

A good place to stay
The hotel is set on a slope above the river. It is a fairly steep walk back if you take a stroll into the town, but the town is well worth the walk. We found it a good base to explore the area and a good option for a trip to Porto by Metro. The breakfast is very good but we found we preferred local restaurants along the river for an evening meal. We would certainly consider using it again if we were in the area.

Spring in Vila do Conde
We found it perfect if travelling with children, the kids had a good time in the swimming pool, no matter what the weather was outside. My wife enjoyed the sauna too. Surroundings are very nice in Vila do Conde and the hotel sits on a hill with nice views of the Ave river and of the historical Convent of Santa Clara. There are nice restaurants at walking distance and the beach is 2,5 km away.It is not a luxury hotel, but in general very clean and pleasant.

Nice hotel in a quiet area
All you need is within the hotels facilities. The staff are helpful,polite and very lovely. The breakfast buffet was amazing! Great place for couples to enjoy eachothers company. Only issue was the cracked flooring on balcony other than that it was a good get away
