Lovely view

Posted Mar 8, 2017
We stayed for one night at the Santana Hotel it is a big hotel with a good location in Vila do Conde, with bars and restaurants whitin short walking distance. The hotel in itself is confortable however is a bit outdated. There were no toiletries available except for shower gel. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice! The spa area is good and with a nice view, but you will need a swimming cap to go in the pool (they sell them there in case you don't have one)

Pros: Great staff - helpful and very kind, very nice location (walking distance to the ocean, train and village), gym, lots of parking places.
Cons: The hotel needs renovation. Non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke. In the corridor, a musty smell. Carpet covered with stains. No hot water in the bidet. No sound insulation. Pool nice, but partly used for school activities for young children. Small sauna (two benches). Expensive breakfast - 10 Euro.
Location: Porto is 45 minutes away by train. 20 minutes walk to the ocean.

Pros: Staff were very helpful and welcoming and the location was perfect for our holiday.
Cons: Room was old, shower in room was not 4* quality.
Location: Small town with convenient stores cafes shops and dessert shops. Bike hire locally. Riverside views. Easy metro access to Porto.
Hotel room was big, clean and had everything you'd need. Shower in our room 2102 wasn't very good, trickled water, however the spa facilities made up for this and we used those each day after our morning swim. Riverside views were stunning from all areas of the hotel/spa and we found the location very handy for a wedding in Trofa. Metro nearby for day trip to Porto.

Good facilities, poor room

Posted Oct 22, 2016
Location: The hotel has wonderful views. However if you are walking (which we did) then you have to climb a steep hill to get to it
We loved the spa, the communal areas and bar etc. The staff were so helpful giving us information about the local area and Porto. The only major issue we had was the room. It was out dated and could at least do with a lick of paint to bring it forward and look cleaner.

Mixed Experience

Posted Jul 11, 2016
Pros: Friendly, Respectful, Competent Staff;. Impeccably clean room which was well maintained throughout our stay; quality of wifi in the room
Cons: Ensure that, at least, most of the restaurant menu items are available. Maintain Brandy Stock. Make a small desk and chair available in the rooms.
Location: 500 m walk to Vila do Conde which is a lovely place to visit with many historical sites, attractive riverside and many quality traditional restaurants
I am able to be very positive about the hotel staff, who were very helpful, fully competent and had a a most friendly, whilst respectful, attitude. The room was immaculately maintained throughout our stay. The wifi in the room was fast and reliable but the use of my laptop on the work surface was uncomfortable as the space between the end of the bed and the worksurface was insufficient to accommodate the chair. As I am sure that most customers of the hotel will need to use their laptops for both personal and business needs and the provision of a small desk and chair in the corner of the room would be much appreciated. The Restaurant was most disappointing. We had all decided to have fish items off the menu for our main courses only to be told that no fresh fish was available. After dinner two of us ordered coffee and brandy, after short time the waiter returned to to tell us that the hotel had no brandy. Even the most modest restaurant in Portugal will always have an ample stock of Macieira !!

A good place to stay

Posted Apr 22, 2016
Pros: In a quiet area with views over the river.
Cons: Beds felt as though they had a memory foam topping which wasn't our ideal.
Location: An interesting town and riverfront. The lace museum and the market are worth visiting.
The hotel is set on a slope above the river. It is a fairly steep walk back if you take a stroll into the town, but the town is well worth the walk. We found it a good base to explore the area and a good option for a trip to Porto by Metro. The breakfast is very good but we found we preferred local restaurants along the river for an evening meal. We would certainly consider using it again if we were in the area.

Spring in Vila do Conde

Posted Apr 1, 2016 on Hotels
We found it perfect if travelling with children, the kids had a good time in the swimming pool, no matter what the weather was outside. My wife enjoyed the sauna too. Surroundings are very nice in Vila do Conde and the hotel sits on a hill with nice views of the Ave river and of the historical Convent of Santa Clara. There are nice restaurants at walking distance and the beach is 2,5 km away.It is not a luxury hotel, but in general very clean and pleasant.

Nice hotel in a quiet area

Posted Nov 16, 2015
All you need is within the hotels facilities. The staff are helpful, polite and very lovely. The breakfast buffet was amazing! Great place for couples to enjoy eachothers company. Only issue was the cracked flooring on balcony other than that it was a good get away
