The property itself is quite amazing. Architecture, theme, decor, facilities and amenities, certain views, general atmosphere are all great or excellent. Restaurant staff was amazing and breakfast is amazing. Hotel staff was hit or miss, most were great/excellent, but a few bad apples made the difference. Staff from room cleaning service tried to enter twice in the same day with us inside without knocking and the lady at the counter who checked us in and coincidentally was there while we checked out was not really helpful and dismissive of our concerns as guests. No hotel staff offered help.
Our only true concern was the fact that the hotel's inaccessibility and hidden location is not mentioned in the Expedia description. We missed the one costumer review that warns others about this. The hotel is not closed to the beach, there is no true beach in this industrial/port city, and the hotel is not in a central location, it is hidden in a pedestrian path up Cerro Alegre hill with no vehicle access. Maybe this is part of the "charm", but if you don't know, you don't know. We didn't and after a month cruising in Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, we wanted a break in a nice hotel. Having to lug out all of our bags from our rental car after trying to find the hotel was not what we expected. Had we known, we could've made a couple of day bags and leave all our equipment in the car. but this wasn't possible and really soured or experience.
