I think the hotels in Valpo probably should be evaluated with the itself. As this was my first trip to Chile, and after having spent several nights in the best hotel in South America , some expectation setting is in order.
Not ever having been in a 1st to 2nd world country, I had no idea what to expect. Valpo is a much more gritty town than Santiago. Finding this place, even with an iPad GPS, was almost impossible. There is zero logic.. The neighborhood is a mix of decay and hidden wealth.
The interior is like Chile, working hard to be e best it can be. The main area is a welcome relief after driving. The parking lot is okl, if not rough, but your car is safe. The room was the Superior, and definitely smaller than I hoped. I was ok with scaling my impressions to Santiago. I don't know if that is the custom,I'm not an experienced world traveler. The distance to the old town of Valpo was not excessive. About 10 minutes walk through a pretty average area. The breakfast service was simple, with the option of having it in the room.
Valpo is noise, barking dogs and traffic horns.AIs far as Ultramar is far from be the middle of this, I was glad. Internally the walls are not thick.
As it was the first REAL place I saw in Chiile. I don't want to rate the hotel based on that. I was glad I found it, I felt safe, and they would fix anytihng that i found bad. I felt a bit far the action. The taxis there are many, but as I driove myself, I was already a bit shaken by the traffic.
