The Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas is a terrific zoo! The zoo has a great range of animals and exhibits and the grounds are well kept and spacious. There's lots of shade to keep you somewhat cool during those hot Texan summer months if you visit during that time frame. The animal enclosures are nice, and can really give you great views of the animals themselves if you are a bit patient. This also makes for great photo views, as shown here with this photo of an approaching jaguar. Food and snack prices are also very reasonable, as are prices for souvenirs. This zoo makes for a great day out for the family. Too often old structures are torn down the moment they are no longer used for their original purpose. Unused and unloved they soon spiral into disrepair, graffiti and vagrants hasten their demise strengthening the voices of those that considered them an eyesore and advocate for their removal.
This steel truss railway bridge crosses the Brazo River in the heart of the city of Waco in Texas and has somehow managed to withstand the elements and the adversaries. For me this bridge stands today as a remarkable historical, engineering and architectural monument to early Pioneer America.
Built 136 years ago by the St. Louis Southwestern Railway of Texas, it was known as the Cotton Belt railroad and was part of the greater Southern Pacific system. The railway operated right up until the mid-1980’s and has since sat vacant. Today the steelwork superstructure has little or no paint, the wooden decking is rotted in places and the vines are taking over. Despite all this it stands with a sense of strength and permanence, almost challenging the onlooker “I will be here for a hundred more years, will you? “
I was pleased to hear there are plans for its restoration and for it to become part of a new river walking trail. I would however be sadden to see it all shiny and new without the character and battle scars it wears like a proud veteran.
This was one of the Owls they had. So cute! It's eyes reminded me of Wall-E! #klmfoto #tnkarts This is another cool shot against the glass. I was wearing a red shirt that day and attracted all the animals. This guy/girl came up to the glass for me it was amazing! #tnkarts #klmfoto Wacko Waco Shadows in downtown Waco The bakery of the Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas, specializing in gourmet cupcakes. It was cool they had the glass up against the water so you could see above and below! #tnkarts #klmfoto For Fixer Upper fans, Chip and Joanna Gaines recently opened their new store at a renovated silo property in Waco, TX. Lines on Saturday to get in the store extended around the block despite rain. Sunday was beautiful but the store was closed. The wonderful Baylor campus is just a few blocks away. Baylor sciences building, beautiful. If you look at a satellite view of this building along with the McLane Student Center, it looks like a bear claw The bakery at the magnolia silos was really good. The cupcakes were amazing! So moist and soft and delicious. That's only the cake part! The icing was equally soft and creamy and delicious and great if you have a sweet tooth! They have about 6-7 different cupcakes and the line can be a little long but they give you an ordering card while your on line so it all moves pretty fast.
