Great entrance and views, but disappointed inside

Posted Aug 31, 2017
Pros: The views of Auckland and being in the greenery/nature.
Cons: In need of a renovation update. Garden view cabins are not well insulated for cold nights/heaters slow to warm up. Poor bathroom ventilation.
Location: Location - 35-45min drive from City. Nature walks nearby.
For a break outside from the city and into the Waitakere ranges, it's great. Expect to be immersed in the greenery upon arriving and the views of Auckland in the distance. Unfortunately, the building itself is quite dated. We stayed in the Garden Spa View room. Great views of the city, but quite cold at night (old lockwood cabin-like feel) The spa in the bathroom was a bit of overkill as the ventilation could not keep with the moisture generated - there was a strong smell of bleach upon arrival, which would indicate that condensation is an issue. Kitchen - There is no oven in the self service kitchenette - but there is a microwave, fridge and cooktop. Lounge - dated furniture but comfortable. TV. Electric wall mounted heater. Bedroom - large and comfortable queen bed. Safe available in closet. TV. Electric wall mounted heater. Did not try any food at restaurant as went to local joints. Reception staff - friendly and helpful. Grounds are well kept. There are walking tracks available nearby. Note - it is quite a drive from the city (approx 35-45mins depending on driving), along curvy picturesque roads. Would advise to avoid driving at night, if you are not comfortable with no street lighting. There are some groundwork/construction ongoing at the moment, so some areas may be fenced off.

Location: Lovely tranquil setting just what I needed after a long journey to New Zealand and a disastrous start with the hiring of a campervan!!!!!!!
Lovely friendly staff and superb accommodation. Fantastic setting, peaceful and quiet.

Lovely views over Auckland

Posted May 9, 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Location, comfort
Cons: It is a bit jaded, could do with a freshen up.
Nice location in a older style establishment. Just a quick stay for us. Lovely views and near Piha beach, worth a visit.

Pros: Spacious room, very quiet, friendly staff.
Gorgeous setting surrounded by native forest, with magnificent views towards the city. Very comfortable room and dinner at the in house restaurant was fantastic.

Our Most Terrible Experience

Posted Apr 9, 2017
My wife and I planned to stay 4 nights at Heritage Collection Waitakere Estate, out check-in was on 31st January, 2017 but we just stayed there for one night. Kindly consider our below notes before booking this hotel: • From the main road to the hotel, you have to pass the one-way curly detour with no light, which is even hard to pass with the small car. • No available check-in process after 8PM • No reception in the afternoon, someone from Kitchen did the check-in process! • No reception after 11PM • All the lights will be off after 11PM, basically no one can go outside because of no light • Hotel Gates are all closed from the evening, you cannot go outside the hotel after 11PM, very dangerous for the emergency happenings • No air-conditioner in the rooms • No windows curtain net or any anti-insect, when the air is stock and you need some fresh air, you cannot leave the windows open because you will meet many insects • No lift in the hotel, you need to ask many times for the assistant and finally someone from kitchen will come and help you • You cannot even walk during the night, the little noise will travel to rest of the rooms • As their process, They block 400$ in your check-in process and they will return that 25-30 days after your check-out, which they haven’t mentioned in their initial booking!

Fawlty Towers

Poor indication at road entrance from the city side at night. Not given the room booked online due to illness of a cleaner. An uncomfortable bed in an attic room that looked out over a metal roof that glared in the morning sunshine. Not what you'd expect from a hotel that claimed its uniqueness of being in the centre of a wildness area. At least paint the roof with a non reflective colour!

Horrendous

Our stay went from bad to worse and ended up with us cancelling the remainder on the busiest weekend in Auckland. Was worth the risk vs staying anymore nights

Thick towels & towel warmer, comfortable arm chairs, extremely friendly & helpful front desk staff, splendid view of city skyline, wonderfully quiet & lush surroundings. Room could use a ceiling or floor fan, housekeeping didn't refill coffee supply, mattress padding slightly sunken.
