Room #115: We arrived about 12:30am as stayover on drive from FL to NY. My adult son noticed a tiny pinpoint which he thought was bedbug on cover of bed which was white cloth. I took back of my fingernail to it, it smushed with dark smudge, so was definitely some type of bug. I went to the two white cotton cased pillows at headboard not covered by bedspread, turned them and saw three bugs. I think two were baby roaches, though my son's internet search has him convinced they were bedbugs. They were 1/8" long, light brown with antennae. The third was much smaller, more likely bedbug. We grabbed our bags, returned to front desk, and asked for refund. Since I'd already charged my credit card with my reservation through this site, I asked for a written confirmation that there would be no charge, which was supplied. The night clerk said she'd close the room until it could be properly cleaned.
Bugs seem to be a problem in the south. At another motel in VA near the NC border of I-95, as we were trying to check in a few nights before this, a woman returned to the front desk asking for her driver's license back. It was also around midnight. I told my son people don't leave their hotel rooms at midnight in a huff unless there is a real problem. I said to go ask her what was wrong. She told him roaches in the bathroom when she entered. js
