Called to confirm a late checkin. Was told everything was ok. A few hours later got a call that I am transferred to a different hotel. Had difficulty to obtain the address of other hotel by email or a confirmation. They also did not transfer the free breakfast. When I asked on the phone what was the reason for the transfer, I was told (no joking) that this is due to a medical emergency at the NIH facilities. When I arrived at the new hotel I was told that American Inn is often overbooked (in particular, that specific night).
Please note that I do not know anything about the facilities, cleanliness or comfort as I stayed in a different hotel.

We apologize for the inconvenience. I cannot speak to how information was given to you by a competitor hotel. I will confirm that it is not our practice to deliberately overbook our property.
However, our location in very close proximity to several major health care and research facilities (NIH, NCR, Walter Reed and Suburban Hospital to name a few). For this reason we often get long-term guests who are required to unexpectedly extend their stay based on doctors orders or the pace of their research. As one of the few hotels that give great priority to our partnership with NIH, we strive not to further stress guest who are often dealing with grave circumstances by having to worry about displacement.
We make every effort to not let this commitment impact other visitors. We would be honored at the opportunity to win back your business, should you ever decide to return to the area.
