Great hotel close to Smithsonian

Posted Aug 18, 2015
Location: Chinatown, Gallery Place, Smithsonian, American Museum of Art and Portrait Gallery, Spy Museum, Pi Pizza, Limited Seafood
We arrived before check-in and were welcomed to a room. They were having a wedding party stay on the floor we were supposed to stay on so they upgraded us to a quieter room with a larger bed. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were walking distance to the Smithsonian Mall. We will be staying here the next time we return to Washington D.C.

Disappointing

Posted Jul 13, 2015
Pros: The decor is cool.
Cons: Pretty much anything involving people could have been improved..
Location: Location is good. Close to the metro, close to a few different museums, faced a less of a busy street so it was easy to get UBER vehicles or cabs.
Room was smaller than expected. Room service never happened, they wouldn't answer their phone. Guest services was not any good, asked for extra towels and never got them. Ended up having to dry off with a wet towel. Sometimes trash from others room service would be there ALL DAY out in the hallway. For the money I would have stayed somewhere else. * kara in guest services was AWESOME. She recognized it was our anniversary and had a bottle of Champaign waiting for us when we returned from dinner that night..

Pros: everything
Cons: can't think of anything
Location: congress building, most museums, national mall
fabulous hotel in historic building but very well kept, excellent location as can walk to most everything there is to see. Staff couldn't do enough for us and provided us with every need. Very impressed and would return in a heartbeat

Higher expectations...

Posted Jul 6, 2015
Pros: Location.
The hotel is beautiful. However, for the price you would expect a free bottle of water and a coffee maker in the room. Simple things that mean a lot, instead of a yoga mat and thick robe. Most major chains now provide these basic guest needs.

Location: Diagonally across the street from Verizon Center. Penn Quarter is a nice neighborhood with many restaurants. About 8-10 blks from the mall.
The Monaco is a very solid, reliable, clean hotel, with an excellent and friendly staff. The historic building was originally a post office, and it's abundant marble, long hallways, and high ceilings probably suited that function well. As a hotel, though, the structure presents minor challenges. The rooms are small, but extremely quiet. Some of the rooms are extremely distant from the elevator and lobby. And because of the small rooms, and the location of the A/C vents, the rooms can feel alternatelly too warm or too cold. I've stayed there many times and won't hesitate to return - but if you are traveling with small children, this might not be the place for you.

disappointing

Location: Location was good.
Paid top dollar for a room. Room was the size of a closet and in the basement. People were walking by and looking down into my room. There was a musty smell.

Weekend trip

Posted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: Excellent staff, historic significance
Cons: Nothing really very nice hotel
Location: Located a few block from the national mall. Across the street from the national archives.
We stopped by Washington, DC for her birthday. The staff had provided a cheese/cracker plate, sparkling beverage, cupcakes and even decorated with streamers. We had a slight issue with the bed (tipped up when you sat on the foot) They fixed it in an hour. Everyone was very kind and VERY helpful. The building has an incredible history and we were very pleased to have a chance to stay there. The Post Modern (cafe/bar) was always ready and rocked on Sat night. We highly recommend this hotel for any stay near the National Mall.
