Way overpriced and poor service but central.

My first impression was walking in and having to wait in line for 15 minutes to check in. Once I get up to the counter, the phone rang and without saying anything to me, the attendant answered it and proceeded to help the customer on the phone change a reservation (which took several minutes) after I had waited 15 minutes. Meanwhile, people that were in line behind me were being serviced at the counter which was frustrating. Once we finally got up to the room, the key didn't work so we had to go back down and sort that out. Paid over $400 for the room and everyone still seemed to want a tip for everything which was a bit irritating but maybe that's just DC. My boyfriend forgot pomade/hair gel. When we called the front counter to get some (mouse, hairspray, anything), they referred us to the gift shop of the neighboring hotel. That was pretty lame- Holiday Inn Express can do better than that. The location is great and close to the capitol building. Not safe at night outside. When I was leaving, in broad daylight, there was a businessman downstairs that had a bloody nose because he was randomly attacked on the street. So I guess the location is a trade off and that's part of the city experience. We have a 4 runner and it wouldn't fit in the garage which is only 5'10". Parking garage was full so had to pay valet anyway which was about $46 each time. And yep you guessed it, they still wanted a tip.
