great accommodation

Posted Sep 28, 2016
Pros: As above and breakfast. If you're trip is to see DC, start with a full breakfast which the hotel offers.
Cons: It's pretty pricey, would have liked to stay 3 nights, I thought could have been less since we were there off the tourist season.
Location: For first time travelers, take Big Red Bus tours which have 4 different routes to see the city, 2 days to see city , more for museums
Good location: close to union station, subway, has a 9 am pick-up by Big Red bus which we made use of for the 2 days we were there, plenty of places to eat around. Staff helpful most especially Quatina from front desk who greeted us with a smile and made you feel she's genuinely happy to have us around. We came too early for check in, she took our luggages and gave us instructions about the Big Bus tour pick-up in front of the hotel. She will be great in training new staff , she has that welcoming demeanor. Thanks Quatina.

Best experience with all the hotels we have stayed

Posted Sep 27, 2016
Excellent staff, good attention to details, clean . Service provided with curtesy and a smile. Recognised gold Expedia status and gave very good extra services for free without asking. Overall very positive stay. Location close to DuPont circle metro station restaurants. Attractions very accessible by metro. Would recommend highly for anyone visiting Washington who does not need to stay in National Malls area.

Stately Hotel on Embassy Row

Posted Sep 26, 2016
Pros: It is very attractive, conveniently located, the staff is gracious and helpful, and the rooms are spacious and very clean.
Cons: I can't think of a thing.
Location: The Phillips Art Museum is very close to the hotel. It is interesting to walk along Embassy row. It is a short ride away from the Mall.
Our stay at the Fairfax was everything we could have wanted! The hotel is beautiful, situated in a great neighborhood near to the Phillips Museum, restaurants, coffee houses, and among handsome embassy buildings. The staff is totally gracious and helpful, making check-in and check-out easy. There is valet parking for a fee that is very convenient. Our room was very attractively furnished in a style that suits this elegant building and its surroundings. The room was spacious, clean and included a little refrigerator and a safe. We found the bed to be very comfortable too. This stay was a delight and we hope to return next time we are in DC.

Chic hotel in DuPont Circle

Posted Sep 26, 2016
First time visit to Washington DC--amazing trip. The hotel staff were very attentive and accommodating, and the facilities were very good. Location was quiet, safe and yet right next to a bustling but laid-back neighborhood. Would absolutely stay again!

Good location, close to metro & comfortable room

Posted Sep 23, 2016
Nice looking hotel but staff not very attentive to guests or the small things. Great location close to metro so easy to get around and nice restaurants nearby. Don't think in 2016 that you should have to pay for in room wifi, should be standard.

We appreciate the feedback we receive from our valued guests as it allows us the opportunity to improve upon the top-notch service we are known to deliver. As an iPrefer member Wifi is complimentary and it’s free to sign up, however, we do regret if you were unaware of its benefits. Thank you, we hope to have the privilege of welcoming you back again.

Very Comfortable

Posted Sep 22, 2016
The Fairfax was a great place. It was convenient for us. Our room was quiet and very comfortable with firm great beds and a wonderful shower that showed (and kept) the water temperature. The staff was very friendly, especially the maids in the hallway, the men at the door and front desk.

Top Notch 4 Star in Great Location

Posted Sep 21, 2016
Pros: Location Location and was very Nice & Comfortable. Upper end of 4 stars.
Cons: in-room breakfast
Location: 20min walk to white house, rental bikes & subway min away, restaurants/bars/cafes all around, 20min cab/30min subway (1 transfer) to national airport
Hotel is very nice, extremely comfortable, and clean. Is definitely on the upscales of four star hotels. The king room with den was not "massive", but perfect for my wife and I, really comfortable to reflex after busy day prior to dinner, and great sleep, bedroom was perfect. Washroom had a very nice walk-in shower, with plenty of counter space for two - was relatively new/modern, very clean, and well maintained. Best part of the location - 20 min walk to white house, subway minutes away, and plenty of stores/restaurants. It is an easy 20 min cab to National airport, or a 30 min one transfer subway ride. We will definitely be recommending the hotel to friends, colleagues, and family. One downside was no in-room breakfast, but the main floor dining room does have a really great breakfast.

Nice hotel, but dated

Posted Sep 20, 2016
Nice hotel, but dated. The carpet in the room looked dirty. There was a smell in the room. Also noisy from the street and also from the nighbours. Not worth the price. You would expect more comfort for a 5 star hotel!

Wants to be high end, but can't quite muster

Posted Sep 19, 2016
Pros: Location
Nice quiet room and bathroom/shower. Everything was clean, but the room was quite humid; perhaps a non-issue in winter. My stay was mid-September. Breakfast was ok. Semi-warm eggs in a banquet casserole dish, so it would have been overrated for us if we would have had to pay the extra $22 for it (it was included at our booking.) I like a nice hot breakfast, so it was good to have it without leaving the hotel, but it was nothing special. It was just the staff that were not really well trained for a hotel that purports to be 4-star. When we walked into breakfast, we didn't know we had to stand around and wait for someone to seat us, we just took a seat, as did the people behind us, but as we were doing this, one of the staff members yelled at my husband "Hey Hey!" (across the room) like we were doing something wrong. There was no sign out to indicate we were to wait. Oh, and we had already eaten there the previous morning. We really took offense to being yelled at by a hotel staff member, and especially so where everything is white tablecloth and trying so hard to be elegant. Might expect it at a cheap dive, but it was out of place here, a hotel advertised to be a classy, elegant, traditional, and with the price tag to boot. We did not address it or confront anyone about it, took it all in stride, but thought others might read this review and be warned that it's not a truly sophisticated experience for the well-traveled. Perhaps others might be fooled.
