Good Location but bad service

Posted Dec 5, 2016
The hotel is old, tired and has a musty smell. It looks good from the outside but the driveway is so small and narrow it is impossible not to get stuck in line waiting for people to get dropped off or picked up. Customer service is lacking altogether, we requested a wake up call and an employee called us 30 minutes late. When I spoke to the front desk they said, they would speak to the manager and tried to excuse the reason for the late call....right out of a Seinfeld episode. By the way, a manager never called us.

Great location and staff

Posted Dec 5, 2016
Pros: Clean, attractive, very convenient location
Cons: Comfort of beds
Location: Right around the corner from Dupont Circle but also in Embassy Row so quiet at night
Overall I very much enjoyed by stay, for an old hotel it's in excellent condition and well maintained. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the room was large, well appointed and extremely clean. My only problem was that I found the bed to be extremely uncomfortable - hard as a rock. I have no doubt they would have moved me (I was there for two nights) and they were very apologetic and reiterated that they would have moved me when I checked out, I was just too busy with work to pack up again mid-trip and move so that's on me. So, my only suggestion would be to test the bed before you unpack.

We’re glad that our staff left you with such a positive impression. Although we know that bedding comfort can be different for each guest, we regret that it wasn't a perfect match for you. For any future visit, we’d be happy to find a room that fits your needs better. We hope you visit with us again.

Close to everything in DC by cab or metro

Posted Dec 5, 2016
Pros: Almost everything. In particular the staff was an absolute pleasure. Also loved the pub/restaurant.
Cons: In room WiFi access and prices, and limited availability in and near the main lobby.
Location: Everything on and near the national mall was special, especially the Smithsonian and the Newseum. Kennedy Center and Ford's theater are great also.
We loved almost everything about the Fairfax. Exception noted below.

Nice hotel convenient to downtown

Posted Dec 4, 2016
Pros: Convenience to the metro, shops, restaurants, and to parks.
Cons: The bureau/bar in my room looked like it could be fixed as I was unable to close it shut fully. The menu at the lounge could be improved.
Location: It is close to Embassy Row, within walking distance to the metro subway, shops, restaurants, parks, museums.
I stayed for one night to visit with friends who live in DC. I was impressed with how well I was treated by the staff when I checked in. That was a great start to my stay. This hotel is within two blocks of restaurants and shops. Staff are courteous and professional. The amenities are great. There is no doubt that I will recommend this to my friends and family, and that I shall soon return for another stay.

Lovely, historic hotel

Posted Dec 2, 2016
Pros: Great value when I stayed here.
This is a lovely hotel located not far from Dupont Circle (metro stop) and good restaurants. I secured an unbeatable special rate after Thanksgiving and I couldn't have been more pleased. The special rate (via Expedia) also included a full complimentary breakfast buffet. The lobby and public areas were clean and appeared updated. The room, which was quite spacious, could benefit from a few minor touch-ups. All in all, a wonderful and relaxing stay.

Nice location is the biggest plus. I can't believe it's 4 stars. I saw 3 stars hotels much better.. No free wifi, even Internet in their Business Center not cheap. First room I got was tiny and noisy. Promised city view was the windows of a building across. Later, it got better. I finally got the good city view.

Ideal location

Posted Nov 30, 2016
Pros: Super comfy bed, spacious room. Nice toiletries. Location really convenient. Fitness center had good facilities and open 24 hours - great for jetlag!
Cons: Could be modernised a little, but perhaps the slightly dated feel is part of the charm.
Location: Ideal location with easy access to Dupont Circle Metro station and walkable to downtown, Smithsonian, monuments etc.
You can see that this hotel may be a little past its prime, just from the styling of some of the decor, but it is still clean and comfortable. Some of the staff were excellent, some not quite so excellent and it did seem a bit of pot luck. As advised by other reviewers, sign up for iPrefer rewards ahead of your stay for free wi-fi but keep an eye on your account as it did show charges at first and I had to get these removed.
