Had a private room and it felt like a basic hotel, clean and comfortable. A good deal when split with another person. Nice and quiet. Be aware that this is a dry hostel even in private rooms. The quiet hours are generally well-observed.

Nice enough hostel, has the basic amenities but I might not stay again if I came back to Wellington. I stayed in a 4 bunk room with en-suite. The drain in the showers needs to be unblocked, I had to keep turning the shower off to let the water drain (I am a quick showerer). The paint was flaking off the walls in the bathroom. The layout of the room was very strange-the ladders for the bunk beds were in quite inconvenient places. The kitchen/kitchen storage area is very small and the kitchen was really dirty (not the hostel’s fault, literally no one seems to wash up after themselves so the sinks were piled high with dirty dishes). Was nice and social though and in a central location and the reception staff were lovely and friendly when I checked in.

Stayed in a single occupancy ensuite room. This was decent sized. The windows didn’t close properly nor were able to reduce lots of noise outside from courtyard music and talking along with air conditioning noise and external noise. Heater didn’t work. Noise in other parts of the building were much worse due to construction work on the street. The fridges were so full I didn’t bother trying to use them. It is a dry hostel which is great with no smoking or vaping but this is soon known not to be true with people smoking on the doorstep and in the courtyard with ash trays provided by the hostel - so cap re that. The bathroom had mould, linens not great but you get what you pay for noting it’s in a really great spot with all amenities, buses, cbd, supermarket all nearby

The room itself was spacious and bathroom was clean. However it was so so so loud there the whole time I stayed all I could hear were doors slamming, construction, and even building work right outside my door during the day! Staff were nice but found the check in experience awkward. Also had to ask three times if my overflowing bins could be changed. Great location but would only stay again if the loud slamming doors were fixed / updated and if I could guarantee a peaceful sleep!!

'Elite' Room was anything but. Not even a glass in thé Room. No wardrobe, broken window held together with scotch tape, incorrect info for ferry provided. Luggage storage Room not locked. Had minimal expectations, property did not even come close to meeting them.

Nice big private room with great sized bathroom. Liked the room itself and the giant stairwell. Unfortunately, thats were the positives end. Kitchen is way too small for the amount of people staying there. During my stay, there was a blocked sink. Which was left blocked for two straight days. Whilst the whole area was constantly dirty. Not enough storage areas for food bags which lead to food bags being piled on-top of each other. The common room, well if you can call it that! Is 6 dirty sofas arranged in rows looking at a TV which isn't particularly sociable. Or you could sit in reception! There is no wall separating this 'tv common room' area with the kitchen, so you're constantly getting an extremely loud TV over the sound of people trying to cook. The reviews from my friends about the dorm rooms were not good either

They upgraded me to a better room with a an ensuite toilet & shower for my 2nd day. 1st day flight was cancelled & was not able to check in early for the 2nd day. Was a let down but the upgrade was kinda great deal to me. Kudos to them!

Towles had holes in them and stains. While showering the drain was blocked so had to be fast. They did leave a chocolate on the bed on arrival which was nice. Other than the cleanliness bed was comfy and they had a smart tv which was a bonus!

Below average but cheaper than some hotels
The stay was okay for a private room but below average. The showers do not drain well so your at risk of flooding the bathroom floor within 2 minutes of showering which is annoying. The rooms are dated and dont have tvs or aircon either. They have a gloomy feel to them. No appliances but they do have a shared kitchen. The bed was very springy and soft too. The staff asked me to pay the cost of the booking on arrival and presented me with the card machine too, but i refused stating I was sure id paid via expedia - to which I was right about they then agreed. This should be checked by staff however as had I not known id been charged and paid, Id never have been wiser or got a refund. Good location though, easy access from the airport and they can advise you on things to do in the city. Plenty of backpackers here.

Didn’t have high hopes as my previous stay in March was pretty hit and miss. Filthy room which STUNK of body odour. Room had clearly not been cleaned in some time. Didn’t feel safe using the room for anything more than sleeping (ie. Couldn’t shower), and was stuck down at reception. Would have checked out immediately if I had a refundable booking. Reception were unable to assist but noted my concerns. There are some significantly better hostels in Wellington City, and I can personally recommend The Dwellington, The Marion, and Trek Global

Unbelievable front of house staff who encouraged conversations and offered personal recommendations. Property was in a great location, walkable to the Cable Car Station, waterfront and Te Papa Museum (which I highly recommend). We had an ensuite room which was basic but clean. It did however face onto a construction site which started about 7.30am. Might be worth giving guests advance warning so they can perhaps select another option. While there is a great kitchen on the ground floor, it would be lovely to have tea making facilities in the ensuite rooms. Nice bar next door with a happy hour and serves food.

While the staff themselves were very friendly and well presented, the condition of the property itself was a glaring difference. Covid has not been kind to this establishment. The housekeeping could dramatically benefit from extra members, the facilities desperately require attention to correct various states of disrepair and every single toilet requires toilet brushes. Overall, if you are looking for a place that reflects the saying "You get what you pay for" in the extreme, then you will certainly find it here. Best as a short term option for travelers on a tight budget.

Hello Elijah I'm sorry you didn't feel the property was up to the correct standards, we are one of the oldest buildings in Wellington and are constantly looking for ways to modernize facilities as best we can however as a heritage listed building this can sometimes be limited. We really appreciate the feedback.

I didnt like that i had contacted them prior to booking and was told that they had parking and then when i arrive for check in, i was told no parking and had to pay. Also reception was rude, like they didnt even wanna work there. Was poor experience overall

週末の夜はヤバいくらいうるさいです。
かなりうるさくても寝られますが、金曜日・土曜日の周りのパブのうるささには驚きました。あれだとなかなか寝られないと思います。宿泊客もそのパブに行っていたからか、廊下で大声を出したり、夜中の2時でもだいぶうるさかったです。バックパッカーなので静かで快適な事は期待していませんが、ビックリしました。たぶん、窓側の部屋やパブに隣接している部屋だけでなく、このバックパッカーズ全ての部屋がうるさく感じていたと思います。バックパッカーズに泊まっているのですから文句はないです。 スタッフはとても親切で気を使ってくれ、気持ち良く滞在する事ができました。バックパッカーズの中ではかなり良い方だと思います。
