Major disappointment

Posted Jul 23, 2015
Pros: The chap on the front desk was nice, but apart from that there was nothing much to like.
Cons: Housekeeping, restaurant service, just about everything
Location: Werribee park itself is nice, and there is a Liberator restoration project worth seeing but not much else.
Hotel looked pretty tatty during our stay. The windows were pretty dirty. The bed linen was torn when we checked in, yet the housekeeping staff still remade the bed with the same linen. The bathroom was small. The service in their supposedly 5 star restaurant was shockingly bad, and the food was ordinary. WiFi service is prehistoric. Parking isn't sufficient when there are weddings at the hotel.

It was ok. Midweek is not great. Room was small and starting to age.

Very pleasant

Posted Jun 9, 2015
Pros: Staff were welcoming and gave excellent service.
Cons: Gravel driveway and forecourt needs topping up to reduce amount of water / mud near the main entry.
Location: Shadowfax Winery and surrounding gardens. Open range zoo.
Enjoyed our stay immensely. Enjoyed relaxing in the library beside the open fire. Dinner at Josephs was excellent and there was a very good selection at the breakfast buffet.

Mixed experience

Beautiful hotel, lovely surroundings, staff were lovely and food good - I don't usually book cheapest room on hotels.com but as we are planning another trip and we had a sadness in the family and needed to get away I booked cheapest rate - the room felt like a budget motel room - so small and pokey but fortunately we only slept there and spent a lot of time around the lovely fire in the library

3 star hotel in a 5 star facility

Posted Mar 30, 2015
The room we had faced a wall with no view of anything other than a grey wall, less than a metre from the window. The aircon didn't work, we couldn't open a window and there was no fan in the bath room so it was like staying in a sauna. We were going to go for a swim in the pool but it has clearly not been cleaned in a while so we passed on that. The resturant was ok, food was average certainly not 5 star as it would have you believe and it was so expensive so be warned for main, desert and a bottle of wine $230 and breakfast was more overpriced than any hotel I have ever stayed at $72 for two for a very small breakfast buffet which we ended up having a bowl of cereal as no al a cart option. They had a small room service menu but note although it says it has 24 hour room service this only applies if you want a bowl of fries or wedges you can find this out while reading the fine print. On the positive side the gardens are amazing and on a nice day it was devine and a tour through the old mansion is lovely. Please don't go their thinking you would be saying in the lovely old mansion which has been converted into a hotel as it has a very large modern extension which has been made to look old with a best western hotel style fit out. I feel my experience was not in line with the expections of this hotel because it claims to be more than it is, for $360 a night we were very disappointed.

Pros: Beautiful environment and ambience
Cons: 2 weddings on. Loud music audible until 10.30pm, so not too bad.

Hotel Mansion

The hotel and surrounds were lovely, however we dined at the restaurant and were very displeased. The food was heavily over priced for the portion size and our dessert was not edible.

Pros: The location was wonderful
Cons: The room was fairly worn
Location: Outstanding
Value: Acceptable price; Cleanliness: Lacking; in room TV facilities were very disappointing. Old TV with incorrectly set aspect and no way to fix it ruined watching anything

Need free coffee in rooms

Posted Feb 15, 2015 on Hotels
Lovely hotel but dampened by the fact you have to pay for coffee in your room, and even milk if you have tea. At a hotel of this calibre it is unbelievable.
