Hotel cancelled our booking very late
We did not stay, despite booking nearly a year in advanced we were cancelled with only a few days to go. Had to pay a lot more for a late booking elsewhere. Despite this hotels.com insist on sending out satisfaction surveys. A bit of a wind up. No apologies and no compensation. A pretty poor show all round.

Not been psid. Owner has disappeared according to neighbors. Because Expedia has insufficient checks in placecwe were stranded in the country having paid off our taxi.

Country pub B&B in idyllic village setting.
The staff are immediately welcoming and friendly. Service was excellent with nothing being too much trouble. For a fairly small pub the food was outstanding with an excellent menu. The accommodation was very clean with tea and coffee making facilities as well as bottled water. Good selection of toiletries in bathroom. We would not hesitate to stay again.

I did not stay at hotel due to previous tenants double booking - I stayed at a local B & B which was excellent - villagers rallied round to assist all affected.

My one night stay suites it’s purpose, it was a bit noisy overnight due to the room being over a pub. The bed was comfortable and the room was cozy, but the shower was a little dirty. There was no television in the room. I was unable to have breakfast as I left early, but options were offered by staff. Not much around the immediate local area.

Easy going Hotel
A minor Hiccup when we arrived as the staff did not know which room had been assigned to us. The staff looked after us very well whilst that was being sorted out and we had no other problems.

Stars at The Star and Garter
We arrived on Friday afternoon having driven 150 miles to be told we had no room. The previous owners of the pub had been able to multi-book the bedrooms over and over and take payment through Expedia. The new pub owners were not able to contact people who had booked as Expedia did not allow the new owners access to the old pub owners account - they were then left not knowing who was arriving and were putting up people in friends houses for the weekend and without receiving payment. Happily, the new pub owner was able to find us a room with some shuffling around and our stay was excellent. They were very hospitable, the room had a few teething problems that they explained having received the pub only seven weeks beforehand.

Stayed at Star and Garter our room was opposite the pub in a holiday cottage with 3 rooms, very clean but a bit small and a very small tv also wifi wasnt available in the room as advertised but available in the pub opposite We ate at the restaurant and the food was excellent. (I had the homemade steak burger - one of the best Ive ever had) There was a party for 30 people but the excellent waiting staff made sure we were looked after. Breakfast was very good indeed. Highly recommend the food and the excellent chefs.

Be prepared as no phone signal!
Our room was across the road from the pub. Clean and comfy with ensuite bathroom (loved the sink tap!). A quiet area although you can hear the Cockrel at first light. Had dinner + breakfast and both were well cooked and delicious. Unfortunately no wi-fi in the room and not much signal in the vicinity but wi-fi access available in the pub.

Fantastic cooked breakfast here!
The Hotel is in new hands and their computer system was not working so they didn't know how many nights we were staying (two) or how much to charge us and in fact tried to over charge us for our room. Thankfully we had our own working computer to show them the correct amount. Not good! There is no shop in the village, there is only The Star and Garter which we hasn't realised. We were RIPPED OFF by a local taxi firm STARLINE - THE CARS WITH THE STARS (what a joke) - do not use. We were told the fare was £23.00 and their guy charged us £35.00. We were idiots to pay really we should have refused. Sigh! Big plus is that the chef here is great and all the food was smashing.

Room was pleasant, looked out over the garden - oh no, the marquee roof! Being a warm evening - chatter til the early hours kept us awake. Breakfast was huge, well cooked and service was attentive

Lovely countryside gem
We had a friends wedding, so we weren't here to explore but the Stat and Garter accommodated our early start, and the man who did our breakfast was great. The night we arrived they got the fire going again and we had some wonderful food :-)

Country village pub
A very nice stay overnight for business. The lovely village is very peaceful and seems like it could be out on a whim, but it isn't very far from Chichester at all. Comfortable, clean, attentive personal service and good food. A properly run establishment doing their best. Check in is at opening time of 6pm though - but if someone is there earlier then you will be let in.

Great location close to Chichester and the beach
The pub was just under new managment and was experiencing a few teething difficulties regarding the accommodation, but the staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant. The food was totally out of this world; my husband and I have not eaten better food in years. Fabulous location - we walked on the beaches at the Witterings, and visited Portsmouth for some shopping. All in all a very relaxing treat and a gastronomic pleasure!

lovely pub, lovely rooms
We stayed at the Star and Garter as we were at nearby Farbridge for a wedding. The pub doesn't look much from the outside but inside its a lovely space, warm restaurant serving fresh quality food and a small garden area at the back. The room we had was across the road. It was a reasonable size, all kitted out with tasteful decor, lovely clean bathroom and comfortable bed! breakfast was delish, lovely fresh ingredients cooked to order and the service friendly. The village was pretty and quiet but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to walk around it or see what the surrounding area had to offer.

We only stayed for one night and our only regret was that we couldn't have stayed for longer! Lovely staff and very welcoming. Will hopefully be back again at some point in the future.

Lovely place to stay and fantasic food!
Really lovely hotel. Very quiet location and the rooms are situated in another building opposite the main bar/restaurant so if you want a quiet evening without people you can have that too, though everyone in the bar both staff and guests are so friendly you wouldn't want to! As a single female traveller I felt extremely comfortable and safe. The rooms are lovely and very clean. The food here is absolutely fantastic and reasonably priced, I had dinner and breakfast and both were to a great standard. The staff here can't do enough for you as when I was travelling in I was unsure whether I would be in time for dinner and when I called they said they would make sure I had something nice to eat when I arrived and not to worry. Would definitely stay here again and also looking at coming back with my partner for a nice romantic weekend away!

Perfect for Goodwood.
This really is a hidden gem, I visit Goodwood regularly throught out the year on business and have always stayed in the premier inn Chichester. Never again the star and Garter is perfectly located and with the friendly staff and excellent food this will be my hotel of choice. There are also some excellent walks in the surrounding countryside perfect for a summers evening.
