Charming, free cookies, good coffee. Excellent dining and service. Could use on-site ATM and Wi-Fi bandwidth is below average and spotty. But we didn't stay for the technology. Beautiful locale and close to everything. Will definitely return in the future.

It ticks the boxes

Posted Feb 12, 2017
Sure, it's old. But it's a nice spot with friendly staff. We were looking for something (a) comfortable, (b) with character, (c) clean, and (d) a nice vibe, and (e) close to skiing. This isn't 5-star marble-lined luxury, but there was a nice range of guests, it was quiet at night, and it checked all the boxes for us.

The rating for cleanliness doesn't mean the room was dirty. It's just that this old carpet and furniture seen to be so long in the tooth that they are beyond cleaning. The room was freezing, the hearing couldn't really keep up. Staff was nice, just at the front desk they were talking bad about Expedia and other travel portals to cover up an error in reservations for about guest ("They're lying to you").

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We are disappointed to hear about your heat. The cold NH winter has certainly challenged our heating systems, but they have held strong and kept our guests warm this winter. We do hope you will visit us again soon.

one of my favorite hotels in New Hampshire

Posted Feb 10, 2017
Pros: The friendliness and kindness of all the staff. I also love the ambiance of the old "grand down east feel"
Location: On a mountain, x-country skiing right out the doorway
The staff is what makes this hotel one of favorites. They can't do enough for you. Friendly, helpful, and they even make homemade cookies and hot chocolate in the afternoon after you've been skiing.

Love the historic hotel, but the mattresses...

Posted Feb 6, 2017
Pros: Very historic.
Cons: The mattresses need to all be replaced. Other people have said the same thing.
Location: Cross country skiing right outside the front door. Downhill 15 minutes away.
I like this hotel. I stay at it in the late 1980s and then also this past weekend. I like that it is located in Jackson and I really like the historic aspect of it.

Right on xc ski trail

Posted Feb 3, 2017
Pros: Location, food, staff.
Location: Already did above.
Ski out onto the Jackson XC trail system. Built in 1879 the hotel does show it's age in some places. But the rooms are clean, reasonably priced, and the food and service are very good. The hotel is just a minute off the beaten path, and 10 minutes from numerous other restaurants, etc..

Wonderful Hotel in the heart of the White Mountain

Posted Jan 29, 2017
Location: Great nordic skiing throughout the area, highly recommend the Jackson XC center as a resource. Close to Mt washington, Great Glen trails and North Con
We stayed here for the UNH Ski carnival. The hotel is right at the race venue and is very convenient. The staff is amazing. It is an old classic New England Hotel and about a 2 minute drive to the village of Jackson. The rooms are on the small side but the lobby is cozy.

Dirty old and outdated.

Posted Jan 23, 2017
The bed was like sleeping on a bail of hay. Totally outdated and in need of a complete remodel. I think the carpets were put in in the 50's. Whacked me with a $30 forced gratuity on my cc.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your stay. The team has worked hard to keep our historic building balanced with today's comforts. That being said, we will immediately look into the mattress in your guest room. As for the gratuity, please do let us know if there are any questions on charges that we can explain further.
