great historical Inn

Posted Oct 5, 2015
Pros: The history and rustic charm
Cons: I wouldn't change it, the owner may have needed some assistance at breakfast as she seemed to be doing everything with a full dining room.
Location: Everything is nearby...really good location
It was great to stay at a non commercial hotel complete with history and rustic charm and creaky floors. Don't stay here if you like Holiday Inn Express or Comfort Suites, but if you want a taste of New Hampshire/New England and to be greeted by an American Greyhound, then I highly recommend it. Our room was small but comfortable and the ambiance was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our quick getaway from Maine and would stay here again. The location is fabulous.

Not cheap and not cheerful

Posted Oct 2, 2015
We decided to book a room at the Isaac merril house due to it's location ie not being on a busy road or city after having stayed at busy hotels/locations prior to our trip into the White mountain. On arrival we were met by an elderly lady who couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming and is a credit to this place , she explained about the heating not being on at the moment as the furnace hadn't been lit due to the weather still being quite mild for the time of year and that an electric heater had been placed in the room for our use should we need it. The room itself was clean and tidy however the decor was old and tired the shower failed to get even lukewarm and after several attempts we gave up and went downstairs to breakfast to be met with a very abrupt and unfriendly person we ordered breakfast which was a joke two small overcooked sausages each and two over easy eggs that resembled the fake type you buy in a joke shop and even this took 30 mins to arrive

Pros: Location, price.
Old inn with loose dangerous floor boards, significantly uneven floors. No compensation with the head of the bed or the television. The room could use some upgrades like paint and a thorough cleaning. The room had a musty smell.

Room was on road side and there was too much traffic during evening. Which make room noise.
