Oasis in the middle of fires

Posted Sep 12, 2017
Pros: The Kandahar had a very European feel to it. The beds were nice and the bathroom functional.
Cons: There isn't anything the owners could do. Maybe swap the room keys for a more modern door system. That would be about it.
Location: Unable. The smoke from the fires just about eliminated doing anything except shopping
The Kandahar is a quaint hotel in a nice location. I would write more about the location, except it was almost invisible. Terrible fires in the Glacier Park all but blotted out any view and drove us away prematurely. We would surely return in the future.

Thank you for your nice comments from a difficult visit. We really appreciate your kindness We hope you will return and experience the scenic beauty this area is known for. Good news for us - rain and snow have slowed the fires and the air is much clearer that it was during your visit.

Great Dining, Noisy A/C

The food in Cafe Kandahar was amazing. The room was very comfortable, but the air conditioner was quite noisy.

Nice mountain-top stay...

Posted Aug 31, 2017
We really enjoyed our stay at Kandahar. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff was very accommodating and the location was quiet. The lodge does not have elevators so keep this in mind for elderly family members. We would definitely stay here on a return trip to Whitefish, MT.

Avoid this Hotel

Posted Aug 24, 2017
Pros: The room had nice beds.
Cons: Customer service training is #1. They also need a different restaurant, menu and bar.
Location: Skiing in the winter. In the summer, you have to drive about half an hour down a steep mountain to get back to shops, restaurants etc.
The staff at the Kandahar Hotel was RUDE. So rude, that despite the nice room, our time at the hotel really was ruined. Long story short, we were not permitted seating at the restaurant, (There was plenty of seating available, but the chef felt that there were too many people with a table of 10 being present) and no one cared. We were told "The restaurant isn't part of the hotel so there isn't anything we can do." It is THE restaurant in the hotel. We were told we could sit at the bar which is literally a tiny, windowless room and order off of a limited menu that contained mostly game meat. (Um..no.) Even then, the server forgot about us and didn't care. There is no elevator so you have to haul your own suitcase up a huge flight of stairs. We were there for the last two days of a "girls week" with my 75 year old mother and the man at the counter, who wasn't with a client or on the phone, just stood there - while I struggled on two different trips up the stairs - with our suitcases. The hotel is far from the town, there are no mountain views despite being up a mountain, and the staff couldn't care less if you're there or not. I would never stay there again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Thank you for sharing your negative experience. We will take it to the people involved in your experience. Yes, we have no elevator, but you are absolutely right that our staff should help you with your luggage and we will again remind them of that obligation. The Cafe is privately owned and as you say is a problem because we do not have control over their operations. They have struggled to find restaurant workers this year and obviously do not have the best. The owners have the Cafe for sale and hopefully it will sell.

Staff Lied to us and Gave our pre-paid room away

Posted Aug 21, 2017
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Management
I have been a worldwide traveler for 30 years and never had such a bad experience. Worst customer service ever We booked this hotel through Expedia over (2) months in advance, specifically located close to nearby events and the mountain views. I called the hotel about 4 pm to inform them that we would be arriving around 5:30. I staff member named Fred said that the manager left me a voice message on my cell phone around noon the same day. I did not receive the voice message as we had no cell service in Glacier National Park. Fred informed me that they had to relocate us to the Hampton Inn, Whitefish, MT. due to a burst water tank. After confirming it with the Hampton Inn, we found it very odd that no other guests were relocated to the Hampton Inn. I called the hotel and asked for the manager, Jennifer, however she was not in. I asked him to contact her and have here call me on my cell. I requested that if we had to be bumped that we be relocated to a comparable level hotel. In the middle of my conversation with Fred, he decide to end the conversation and he hung up on me. I never received a call back from the manager. I doubted the B.S. story about the burst water tank since no other guest were relocated. It was obvious to us that they either over booked or sold our room to a direct paying guest that did not go through Expedia. If you want to guarantee a room in a resort property, do not book it with this hotel. Very poorly managed and care about Expedia bookings.

On Monday morning, August 14, water began to pour out of the west wing boiler. We immediately called the plumber and also began to work on reservations as we anticipated that the fix was going to take more than 24 hours. We had to walk five rooms for arriving guests. We chose the brand new Hampton Inn because they had availability and offer a very nice hot breakfast. It is a beautiful property. The people who reserved through Expedia were more difficult to contact because Expedia does not share contact information with us. I'm sorry that I did not receive your message. Fred could have just put you through to my voice mail and I was definitely working the 14th, 15th and 16th. We did not lie to you. We do not ever oversell rooms. We value our Expedia and Expedia Affiliate business as it is a very significant part of our total revenue. We are very sorry that you had this horrible experience. We plan to order an extra boiler (the supplier is in Seattle) so if that if this ever happens again we will have the equipment to swap out the bad boiler and have hot water within a few hours. As it was, the repair took a little over 24 hours with expedited shipping and the plumber and electrician working after hours to install the new equipment.

We loved this lodge. We stayed for a week. The breakfast every morning was perfect for our family of 4 - everyone could find something they liked. We have a 14 yr old and 11 yr old and they really had a great time. We visited Glacier Park everyday. It was a beautiful drive from the lodge.

Beautiful lodge - matches the surroundings

Posted Aug 1, 2017
Pros: Everything - from the beauty of the lodge itself as we arrived through the friendliness of the staff as we checked out.
Cons: Seriously? Nothing!
Location: Whitefish as a town is wonderful with great stores and restaurants. Nothing in the world can compare to the beauty of Glacier National Park!!
To say fabulous extends from start to finish. The location: Kandahar Lodge- heaven! Each staff member we encountered was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. The beautiful loft room we stayed in made returns home after a busy day of hiking better than coming to our own home. The views out the windows and the garden areas as you entered the back of the hotel and walked between buildings were breathtaking. The cozy, yummy, and filling breakfasts were missed as we continued on our journey to other locations. This truly was the best location we have ever stayed and the lodge added to my family feeling this was our best vacation!! Hope to visit and stay again for years to come. We enjoyed our time in the summer and can't wait to see Kandahar in the winter!
