Disappointed

Posted Sep 18, 2017
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: A lot. The bed was creaky, the fact there is no internet, and staff that seem to care about their jobs.
I go to Whitehorse a lot - so I know I am not getting resort quality hotels... but this was a huge disappointment. I got in late, and while check in was fine, I realized when I got to my room I had not been given the wifi password. I called front desk. And called And called. If you have people check in (there were a few of us), wouldn't you wait at the desk at least a few minutes to see if there were any issues? No. I went downstairs and finally found a staff member and asked for the wifi password. He told me that there was a $4.20 charge. And then made some comments about how he also couldn't believe it and "they" made the rule. 1. It is so rare, why not ask people on check in if they want it? 2. how about your staff act as representatives of the hotel... not try to commiserate with policies they don't like?

Because of a flight delay, I didn't arrive in Whitehorse until after midnight. I was made to feel welcome and given suggestions about parking., He even suggested that I get change in case I needed it for parking meters the next day. At that hour, I would have been happy with just a place to sleep but the room was very clean and the bed was comfortable,

Whitehorse overnight

Staff friendly. Quiet, comfortable bed. Have laundry facilities. Be prepared to pay for high speed Internet and newspapers. Shuttle to airport but not for people picking up cars!

Needs major facelift!

Posted Sep 12, 2017
Pros: Right in the centre of downtown Whitehorse, close to most shops, services and attractions. Free airport shuttle.
Cons: The decor, plus room heating options.
The Whitehorse Westmark has definitely seen better days, and they must have been a long time ago. Threadbare hallway carpets, peeling paint, splintered doors speak to the need for a major refurbishment. The room itself was ok, comfy bed, bar-type fridge and an immaculately clean bathroom, which (as is the custom everywhere) encouraged guests to be kind to the environment by re-using their towels. However, this ecological advisory was markedly at odds with the fact that the air conditioner was going full blast when I checked in, though the outdoor temperature was only about 10 degrees. Staff were friendly and helpful, though, even offering to lend me a small space heater when the room temperature became unpleasantly frigid.

OK, but . . .

Posted Sep 11, 2017
Pros: Not much - like most of the hotels in Whitehorse, they have seen better days. Any attempt to refresh is simply putting lipstick on a pig.
Cons: You don't need 4 chairs in a room barely 10x10 with a king size bed . . .
A couple of experiences that led to my ratings: - Staff seem to have an issue with the concept of a late check out. When I checked in, I asked about a late check out on my departure day, as I knew I would not be returning to my room on my final night until 3am. I was told to check back on the morning of my check-out day. Kind of defeats the purpose of the request given my circumstances. I spoke to the front desk again the day before my departure, explained that I would not be returning to my room until 3am and that I really would prefer to resolve the late check-out question. Again they refused to do anything with it, telling me to request the late check-out when I returned to the hotel at 3am. I did so, and was told I could check out at 1pm, an extra hour, but could tell the individual was not totally sure of the request or what they were doing. I requested a "Do Not Disturb" sign for my door - there was none in my room - and was told that they didn't have one but they would let housekeeping know. Sure enough, at approximately 11am, there was a knock on my door from Housekeeping. I said I had a late check-out. At 12:15 I received a call from the front desk asking why I had not check out. Again I explained that I had requested a late check-out. At 12:40, Housekeeping was knocking on my door.

Dear Valued Guest Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you while you were staying with us. Our usual check out time is at noon of each day. Any late check out should be approved by the housekeeping manager since we have guest checking in that room of that day. We always welcome our guest to stay with us as long as they want. Our front desk always follows the protocol if the late check out is not approved and to check with guest if they would like to stay longer with us. I hope you can give a second chance in the future.

Nice hotel, in downtown

Beds are comfortable, firm. Bathrooms are basic, not updated but clean. No free Internet and limited tv channels. Parking is limited but street parking is available.

Fine for a short stopover .

Posted Sep 7, 2017
Pros: Good price, well equipped room, good beds.
Cons: Spruce the place up a little.
Location: Nice walk along the river. Close to all restaurants and businesses and museum.
The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped . Beds were good. Price (an Expedia special) was right. The place is old and a little tired but met all our needs for a short stopover.

Close to downtown

Breakfast buffet was good. Overwhelming odor in downstairs lobby, no a/C, absolutely no check in early. We will definitely go to a different hotel next time that is more modernized.

Could Have Been Great!

Posted Sep 5, 2017
Pros: Great locations! Super comfy bed!
Cons: We would likely ask for a different room (less noise), and it would be nice to have the hotel better organize the bus tour traffic.
Location: A short walk for the great amenities of Whitehorse!
Everything was great except the location of the room. For 2 nights we were right over the front door and so the noise levels were excessive. Lots of bus tour traffic which is great, but there should be some consideration for other hotel guests. The buses would often block access to and from the parking lot (parking was extremely limited on site). People from bus tours would line up in the hotel doorways making it nearly impossible to get in or out in some cases. The bed was super comfortable and it was great to have guest laundry facilities on site!
