Wilks Barre Hotel

Posted Jan 19, 2018
Upon checkin, I waited 10 minutes while the two employees talked in the back room. They could visibly see me at the front desk, but did not care enough to come and check me in. After taking my credit card, they handed me the room key and walked away. No explanation as to where my room was, what my room number was, how to navigate the hotel... nothing. Poor customer service.

Nice hotel with lots to do

Posted Jan 8, 2018
The hotel was very nice. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast food could have been a little better and less expensive but all in all a very good place.

Why is it a resort?

Posted Dec 13, 2017
Hotel halls and elevator were not heated in the winter in Pennsylvania and room dark with a bug on our bed when we checked in. Because breakfast room has stairs to get to it, I had to go out in the cold to drive my mother to it in the morning. Not worth the money at all.

Woodlands needs updating

Posted Dec 12, 2017
Pros: Great staff, complimentary full breakfast, convenient location to interstate.
Cons: A complete overhaul of the rooms. The disco era is over!
Location: The Mohegan Resort is across the street if you like to gamble or see a major show. Otherwise there isn't much to draw folks in to this area.
Overall The Woodlands facility seems in need of a facelift as the property seems to be stuck in the 1980s. This was our second stay here and the room interiors are definitely bleak. A number of rooms are pet friendly which means you could be next to a room where a dog is barking for hours on end - which was our experience, twice. My suitcase was coated with dog hair. The staff however was on their toes and changed our room ASAP no questions asked, provided drink coupons and entrance to the night club. Kudos to the front desk personnel. Complimentary breakfast is provided during the week which had a great variety and omelets cooked to order, all a great plus. Entertainment venues included an excellent free live band when we were there and a night club staffed with several security officers. Lots of stairs to get to various areas of hotel and our handicapped companion needed to change rooms as she couldn't handle stairs. Not particularly handicapped friendly which seems to be due to the age of the hotel. Room service always forgot items such as hand towels each day and didn't get to our room at all one day.

Met my expectations and more. Everyone was welcoming and plenty to do if I needed to be in the hotel. Pool nice, breakfast in the morning was great and evening welcoming cocktail was perfect.

We enjoyed our stay at the Woodlands. The staff was friendly. Loved spending time at the bar watching a game or getting to know other couples. Bartender super friendly. Shogun restaurant had awesome food. Morning buffet was even good for a complementary breakfast. Only minor complaint is that the water in the shower never got past luke warm. With the weather chilly outside, a hot shower would’ve been nice. But overall a great stay.

Ok Hotel, Needs A Face Lift

Posted Nov 13, 2017
Pros: Location to the wedding venue I was attending and all the amenities of the hotel.
Cons: a face list of the rooms would be nice.
Location: I attended a wedding, so this hotel was a great location to the venues I needed to get to. I know there is a casino nearby, but didn't visit.
The temperature was in the 30s during my stay at The Woodlands and when I walked into the room, the heat was completely off and it was freezing in my room. The furniture is on the older side and you can tell it's been around the block a few times. On the flip side, the views from the restaurant area are very nice and this hotel has a ton of amenities to keep you busy.

Dear Kari: Thank you for sharing your experience. Our housekeeping staff should have the heat on in all the rooms set at 65, my apologies you had to walk in to a freezing cold room. We are in the planning stages of a room remodel, hopefully soon. Thank you, Ross Kornfeld

Didn't meet our expectations.

Posted Nov 11, 2017
Beds were comfortable. HVAC unit was loud and woke us up several times when heating room. Could hear other guests talking and children running in hallways. Room was near pool and chlorine smell was in hallway. Room lacked decorator window treatments or any framed artwork. Did not sleep well here. Will not stay here again.
