Great vacation spot!

Posted Nov 20, 2017
Beautiful grounds, great beach and swimming area. Great food at all 4 restaurants, friendly service at restaurants, front desk, housekeeping. Beds comfortable, slept great. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2bath oceanfront suite, great location great view of ocean, beach volleyball and sunsets. 2nd floor Balcony was great. The suite is really small, although sleeps 4 there is only room for 3 to sit in living room, we had to bring in deck furniture to have seating for all but then no room to walk around. TV has limited channels in English, news, sports and 1-2 others. Kitchen is small, and has no lighting except stove hood, so tough to see what your doing, and very little counter space, no toaster, or blender. We ate dinner every night at restaurants but planned to eat in for breakfast, lunch snacks etc, which worked out well ( no significant cooking required in tiny work space). Fridge is big enough for what we needed. Washer & dryer on same floor out of suite, but small and long run times, no such thing as "a quick load of wash"! 2 grocery stores within short drive, we had a rental car so no problem. Staying on resort would be quite comfortable I think, having a rental to see other things was a must. Aquarium was nice, easy walk, very close. Snorkeling on site was ok, very safe but no reef, just rocks and sand with some small coral growth and fish... an octopus and eel too. Scuba with Ocean Encounters was great, trip to Klein Curacao is a must

Pros: Location, near the beach
Cons: Little light on supplies, no soap or shampoo-neede to go shopping
Location: Good location for beach and diving and Aquarium.
Friendly staff, and well maintained grounds. rather pricey breakfast that I would expect to be included.

Great location

Posted Oct 14, 2017
Pros: The location is excellent and the swimming lagoon is great.
Cons: Towels, restaurants and the service within as the staff are often chatting rather than working
Hotel is in an excellent location with nearby restaurants and a quick taxi ride into town. Beach is fantastic with great swimming facilities. However, the hotel restaurants and bars are expensive and the food is mediocre/poor. Fortunately you can eat at restaurants within Mambo beach albeit they are still expensive or a quick taxi into Petermaii where there are many excellent restaurants with better quality food at a better price. The hotel also tired towels both room and beach which must be the originals from 1980!! There would appear to be a shortage of towels as they did not have any hand towels for the room.

Pleasantly Surprised

Posted Sep 29, 2017
Pros: Georgous Beach, Great Food
Cons: Make the rooms a bit more comfortable - all need AC. Provide toiletries
Location: Everything you'll want to do is nearby however i would highly recommend renting a car and exploring other beaches and cliff sides -
Considering the price and what we're used to at other resorts at first site i was a little "iffy". However quickly I realized we were in a perfect place. The "only" negative is our room didn't have AC in the living room, only the bedrooms and they don't provide the typical lotion, shampoo conditioner toiletries. However now to the good part: The resort provides lots of choices for food and festive beach bars, however the tone and the vibe is always "Chill". The food is also excellent at Hemmingways-there are 3 or 4 choices for food there, but we hung our hat there. Lions Dive is a place where couples can go or families. You can snorkel at the resort and see beautiful fish.

Beachside Pleasures, But You Have To Pay

Posted Jun 26, 2017 on Hotels
As an American, it seemed like most of the other guests were Dutch. No big deal, Curaçao is a Dutch territory, but at times it felt a bit exclusive. People treat you differently when they hear that American accent. The hotel is fine, though you get what you pay for. Our rooms were at the far pole of the resort, the opposite side of the laundry facilities and a brisk walk to the front desk. Still, once you get to know your way around, everything feels quite close. The resort was in a bit of disarray when we visited. The 50m lap pool was closed for renovations. When we tried to get ice, one of the machines was broken, and the other simply had no ice in it; a maintenance worker had to procure a sack of ice cubes so we could fill our bucket. Washing your laundry is an ordeal in and of itself, which brings me to my next point. At a resort like this, they want you to do things their way, on their terms, at their prices. Everything is gated and fenced in, which means you must follow their paths and pavements, even when that's inconvenient. You'll be encouraged to link a credit card to your room to pay for food and drinks at the bars and restaurants. It's a $150 deposit, so be aware. The beach is pleasant and there are lots of iguanas and tropical birds around. You can have a great time here, but be prepared to get charged at every turn. It's a nice resort, but they will nickel and dime you to death. Have fun. Also, this is a family friendly place. Lots of children.

Dear Vaughn, Thank you for staying with us and for the feedback on your overall experience. I must explain that the US$ 150 is in fact not a deposit but a pre-authorization to be set against any spend you may have in the hotel. Should a guest decide not to agree to pre-authorization it would simply mean that they would have no credit in the hotel and have to pay at the point of using any of the hotel’s facilities e.g. drinks, food or massage. We have taken note of the areas which did not meet your expectations and will continue to make improvements. We look forward you give us the chance to serve you again Sunny Regards

Good beach hotel with snorkeling

Posted Mar 11, 2017
Pros: Nice combination of hotel/location/facilities
Cons: Grouting of floor tiles in bathroom needed deep cleaning. On site choice of breakfast limited to somewhat pricey buffet - nearby options limited
Location: On the beach and close to a shops/restaurants complex directly on the beach (Mambo). Very close to Aquarium and Dive Boat / excursions.
Spent one week beginning of March 2017. Well pleased with facility and location. Lovely calm sandy beach. Spent a lot of time swimming / snorkeling (good). Some music noise on weekends. About 15 min car drive into Willemstad, an interesting centre. Dutch and local language much in evidence. Currency is Dutch guilders or US dollars. This resort had 240V electricity with European style 2 pin sockets. Found staff friendly and helpful.

Above Expectations!

Posted Mar 10, 2017
Pros: Loved the location and all that was available within walking - or swimming! - distance.
First visit to Curacao and, after researching we booked at the Marriott. Then that hotel closed for renovations. We thought Lion's Dive might be too busy and possibly noisy. We were wrong about that! We had a car for four days but didn't need it. More restaurants on-site and nearby than we could possibly visit in a week. And the snorkelling right off the beach, particularly outside the rocks, was the best of the places we visited. Our room was convenient to the beach and there were always lots of lounge chairs available. The whole experience was wonderful.

Beautiful beach and short cab ride to city

Posted Mar 10, 2017 on Orbitz
This is an older facility but supposed to be undergoing reservations this spring/summer. Staff was good. Lights in room never did work right, had to turn main power off to turn off bedroom lights (so no light in bathroom) but the TV stayed on thus was tolerable as it gave off light but we had to lv it on all night. Bed pillows so uncomfortable had to give up and roll up a quilt for pillow. Great beach and restaurants. Nice for first timers to Curacao. We bought transfers in advance for shared ride $42 round trip airport. Cabs were plentiful at $15 one way to hotel (w/o tip) so no worries about booking a ride in advance. Had odd way of handing out beach towels. You get one but have to take it to the lobby and trade in for new one. Surprised this was not managed on the beach. Beach bar lively and fun. Some shops adjacent to property. Set up had fun water playground for kids which kept families a distance from adults vacationing and not wanting kid antics in your face. That set up was brilliant. Overall great for all ages.
