Almost there

Posted Sep 25, 2017
Location is good, people are nice but they've been working on the renovation forever. Once it's done and they have some onsite food and newer rooms it should be much better.

It's okay

Posted Sep 8, 2017
Pros: It's supposedly haunted. The history associated with the hotel is cool.
Cons: Add some actual ghosts.
Location: It's a few miles away from the main hotel/restaurant strip of WIlliamsburg. That could be a plus or a minus.
The hotel was being renovated when we stayed there. The lobby was closed off. The outdoor pool, from the looks of it, hadn't been used or cleaned in months. The indoor pool was open and fine for the kids to play in. Our room had just been updated, so it was fine. Others we were there with didn't have such luck. The bathrooms are tiny. The toilet and shower are together. the sink is outside of that.

Easy to get anywhere in Williamsburg. Still doing renovations but not a problem.

Under Renovations

Posted Aug 19, 2017
Please know that the hotel is under major renovations so don't expect the welcome you would normally get from this hotel. No common/sitting area, no coffee or water in waiting area. Actually no real waiting area. The reception staff were nice. Hopefully the work is done before you arrive. I wouldn't recommend this hotel during renovations. Check first.

Worst hotel experience of my life

Posted Jul 11, 2017
Awful, outdated hotel. But what makes it worse is that the place is a construction zone, with no indication that it's still a functioning hotel. The front doors are blocked off with plywood spray painted with the words "no entry". Could there possibly be a less welcoming start to a hotel stay? Once I got inside (after trying several sets of doors), I had to ask attendees from a local conference how to find the front desk because there was no signage. Do not waste your money. I was utterly disappointed; still can't believe they charged me luxury hotel rates. More like a rural motel 6.

Dear Shad, Thank you for staying with us at Fort Magruder Hotel & Conference Center and thank you very much for your feedback. It disappoints me to hear about the issues you came across during your stay. As you are now aware, we are currently renovating the entire property. I apologize that you were not informed of this before you arrived. Because of renovation, we had to block off one side of the hotel for guest access, unfortunately. I would like to invite you to come back and stay with us after to hotel has been fully renovated. Again, thank you for your feedback.
