Awful - construction dust and debris everywhere

We booked a room for four people with two double beds for 2 nights and when we arrived the first night were shocked at dust and debris everywhere from construction. Lots of dust coming in from outside through AC units, large dust bunnies all over the room and rusty shower drain. Room was very tight -- hardly any room to walk around the beds. And when we decided to cancel our second night at the hotel, we were told that would be ok, but that the refund would have to come from Expedia. We were assured that we would get money back for the second night both by the person on duty at night, and by the person who had been on duty at night and the next morning when we checked out. When we called Expedia for a refund, we were told that the hotel would have to approve, and that they were not approving. That we should speak to the manager, who would not be there until Monday. To boot, one of us left behind some pajamas, and when we called to see if housekeeping had turned them in, we were put on hold to "check with housekeeping," only to be told by a second person who had just come on duty that there was no way to check with housekeeping. All staff that was contacted basically gave us the run-around.

Please except my apologies on behalf of the staff, I am the GM at the property, and am trying to change the lost and found issue. However, since I just began I can not take control of what happened prior to my arrival except to apologize for any issues during your stay.
I would hope that maybe in the future you would consider staying again once the renovation process has been completed. I understand the issue regarding the dust from the construction, and have hired a completely new housekeeping staff.
