Auberge accueillante

Posted Sep 15, 2015

Lovely house and settings

Pros: The peaceful setting and attached farm with rare breeds for petting was much enjoyed. Would recommend this stay to anyone and would go back.
Location: Near Stonehenge and several areas of interest but the gardens, picnic area, small animal petting farm with children's play area was enough for us.
I booked in at short notice than needed to add another person, staff were helpful and managed to accommodate us.

Good Deal and Close to Stonehenge

Posted Jul 21, 2015 on Hotels
It is a hostel that is about five minutes from Stonehenge. It's at a good price point, the building/area itself is nice, although there isn't a whole lot close by (within walking distance, at least). We got the private double room which consisted of a set of bunk beds. We're a couple but didn't mind being split up for an evening and having the option of a private double room (as opposed to a dorm style room) was awesome. There's a kitchen with two stoves and two fridges available for self catering as well as a diner that serves meals/drinks. The staff member we interacted with was very courteous and friendly. Showed us the grounds and gave us some great tips for finding food and drink close by. It's not luxury but it's affordable, close to Stonehenge, and sufficient for our needs.

Quiet and relaxed

Room G3 (male sharing) has six bunk-beds, each of which has its own night-light, a large shower that is always hot (no towel provided, but what hitch-hiker wouldn't have their towel?) and a basin with hot and cold water. The beds have cheap mattresses with very noisy springs (try not to turn over unless you want to wake everyone else up!) and you make your own bed (bedding provided). If you're arriving late then other people may already be asleep, so bring a torch (I recommend using a sleeping-mask and earplugs to avoid being woken-up by other guests in the morning). The room has an electric heater for the the winter and large windows for the summer. You may struggle to keep your clothes/bags in a place that is out of the way of other people (depending on which bed you manage to grab). I have never heard the nearby rare-breeds farm animals overnight. There is a well-equipped kitchen with a large refrigerator, two ovens with hobs, a microwave, and plenty of basic utensils for cooking and eating. There is a lovely area to eat or watch TV with long tables and comfy sofas. There is a large cafe area where breakfast can be served in the morning. The staff are very friendly and accommodating (if you're checking in after 8pm it would be worth phoning ahead) and you are given a key fob to re-enter any time. There is parking quite close to the hostel. Use GPS to find the hostel as the turning off the dual-carriageway A-road is quite small (and easily missed at night).
