"Lovely sumptuous hotel room. "
The Hotel and grounds are stunning. We stayed for our 5th wedding anniversary, slightly disappointed that when I phoned to confirm my reservation a couple days before I mentioned the special occasion, however this was obviously forgotten when we arrived and during our stay as no mention or special treat was forthcoming. We didn't eat in the A la Carte due to the menu not to our liking and therefore had a taxi into the City which was only a few miles away where we found a good selection of restaurants. It was a very peaceful stay and will definitely return for afternoon tea one day.

"Enjoyable stay within walking distance of town."
Very enjoyable stay, relaxed atmosphere. The check-in was easy, the room was clean and comfortable. The bar was lovely with a chilled atmosphere and a well stocked bar. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very pleasant with good air conditioning. The bathroom was clean, modern with lovely fluffy white towels. The breakfast was very good with a good selection of hot and cold food. The bacon in particular was very good.

Pocket Guide: Winchester, Hampshire Romantic Hotels

The ancient capital of England, and once the seat of King Alfred, historic Winchester is famous for its magnificent cathedral begun in 1079, and venerable Winchester College founded in 1382. The picturesque area around the Cathedral Green has changed little over the centuries, and offers good places to eat, drink and shop. A short walk across the water meadows, the 12th-century Hospital of St Cross is England’s most perfectly preserved almshouse.
