Very central but was expecting a little better.

Posted Feb 18, 2018
For a 4* hotel we were expecting a little better, furniture a bit tired, a couple of the bathroom tiles were cracked and the shower was lacking power. Plus side very central, nice and efficient staff, free drinks in the room and good breakfast.

Great location, not much else

Pros: location
Cons: Decor
Reception staff unfriendly and brusque. Whole hotel needs an update Fine if you just a basic room and bed for the night

Welcoming receptionist. Had loud noise like a washing machine for hours. Called the reception and said it was coming from their heating system. Nicely moved me to another room which was freezing cold but the noise was still there but not so loud. Wasn't worth paying that much.

I do apologise that you were disturbed during stay and found the room to be cold. Please rest assured I have escalated this issue with our owners whom I am sure will address them as part of their refurbishment plans. Kind regards William McWilliam

Great location for all Winchester has to offer. Staff went out of their way to help ....when refurbishment takes place, any negatives will be eliminated ...until then though, would still return! Car parking sadly is very expensive ....more economical to find alternative parking facilities. The upgraded rooms are worth the extra cost, for finishing touches, space and furnishings.

Disappointing stay - car parking, noise

Posted Jan 22, 2018
Pros: Location
We arrived and found no car parking spaces free. There are some double-parked spaces that we were told couldn't be used. We did manage to find a small corner (not an official parking space) that could fit our Fiat 500. We then were charged £12 for parking, which hadn't been advised at all when booking and was disappointing. The room itself was ok at best. One of the taps in the bathroom dripped constantly, and the shower head really needs a descale. Not big issues, just indicative of lack of care & maintenance. The noise was the worst. Soundproofing is pretty much non-existent both internally and externally. Overall: not very impressed, but it does have an excellent location.

Very disappointed

Posted Jan 7, 2018
Pros: The staff and the breakfast
Cons: Total refurbishment, until then prices need to be lowered drastically
Location: Best location you could hopeful in Winchester next to the cathedral and town centre
Staff absolutely wonderful. This hotel used to be the place to stay in Winchester unfortunately now I would say it’s one of the worst. Arrived to find there was no heating working in room or bathroom, threadbare carpet, wall paper coming off, furnishings looking the worse for ware. Heating was fixed in the room, but it wasn’t very good, we eventually managed to get bathroom heated rail to work. Informed by a member of staff that the hotel was up for sale so therefore the owners would not be refurbishing or repairing anything that wasn’t essential, if heating wasn’t sufficient then use the heater from the cupboard. The breakfasts were very good and didn’t mind the price. Parking cost £12 per night which wasn’t mentioned when booking also we feel we were charged excessively for the room it should have been 1/2 the price paid.

Friendly and well positioned hotel

Posted Jan 5, 2018
Pros: Good position for the town, and it wasn't noisy.
Cons: Cooked breakfast, and the clearing of empty dishes.
Location: Excellent position for the town. The National Trust Water Mill very close . Lovely walk by the river. Cathedral in close proximity.
A group of us stayed for two nights for our son's wedding at the Guild Hall. Hotel in excellent position for this. Receptionists all welcoming and friendly. We were served very quickly with teas and coffees at breakfast, but the cooked breakfast could have been better on the Saturday, sausages didn't look cooked properly and scrambled egg dried up but swimming in liquid, but otherwise, our stay was very good and would go there again. Everywhere clean.

Dear Maggie, Whilst I am delighted that your stay was very good, and you would do so again, I am disappointed that breakfast was not to our normal standard. Please accept my apologies and assurance that I will take the matter up with the Chef. Kind regards William McWilliam

good view of Winchester Cathedral

Posted Dec 23, 2017
Pros: Close to city centre and cathedral
Cons: Bathroom dated, accepted at price, but mildew silicone could be dealt with. Double glazed window unit obviously leaks and has damaged window reveal.
Location: Handy for everything you go to Winchester for.
Comfortable room, but showing signs of age. I am not going to spend time writing a maintenance report for you.

Had a great stay here for Winchester Xmas Market. Perfect location adjacent to the cathedral. Room was big, warm, clean and spotless. Staff friendly. Breakfast - great selection of food. Couldn't fault anything.
