George's place was perfect for our family of four (two teens + parents) for our weekend getaway to Shenandoah National Park. Communication leading up to our trip and while there was excellent and when we arrived, we were greeted with a snack and a bottle of wine - perfect after our six-hour drive. The cabin was nestled in the woods on a mountainside overlooking the town of Strasburg and just a mile from the winding Shenandoah River. We spent one day at the park, just a 20-30 minute drive to the entrance in Front Royal, and then another day exploring the mountain towns of Strasburg, Front Royal and Winchester - all just a short drive away. The cabin itself was well-appointed, with all we needed to prepare breakfast and dinner, a fire pit perfect for making s'mores, a covered patio, an open deck, card games, and even a TV for zoning out before falling asleep after a day of hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the region. Our favorite part of the cabin was sitting on the covered patio with a cup of coffee and watching the valley light up as the sun rose over the ridge behind us. The woods are filled with birds (especially woodpecker) and deer and was just wonderful to watch the mountainside wake up every morning.
The following aren't criticisms - just things to be aware of: water pressure is not always high, so depending how many people are in your group, you might space out showers; the king bed is super plush, so if you like pillow top mattresses, you will love this bed.
Overall we loved our stay at Masten Cabin and we're grateful to George for being such a great host.
