Detroit's Canadian neighbor is an unusual place. It's the only major city in Canada located directly south of a continental U.S. city. Some see Windsor as a border crossing and little more. However, the city has many interesting things to do. If visitors skip Windsor's residential neighborhoods and head straight to the casinos, they miss out on some of Canada's best Italian restaurants as well as the city's regenerated waterfront, where looking across the Detroit River offers great views. Hotels here are mostly functional but attractive, designed for those passing through on short stays.

Great Neighborhoods for Nature
In contrast to the largely industrial Detroit spaces across the water, Windsor is a great base for those looking to enjoy the outdoors. In the center of the city, stay near Dieppe Gardens along Windsor's waterfront for gentle walks and mesmerizing vistas across the water both day and night. Those interested in day trips can journey south and book accommodations on Pelee Island to visit Point Pelee National Park. Flocks of birds and thousands of monarch butterflies stop here on their annual migration. Fish Point Nature Reserve, at the island's southern tip, is the southernmost point of Canada.
